Warthog Flight Stick Trim Question
-
Hi All,
Busy finding my way around and using the training exercises and manuals.
Is there any way to adjust the input for the Trim Hat on the above?
What I am finding is that it seems to be very “coarse” and difficult to adjust for just a fine amount of trim.
I am not a boffin, so I would appeciate any advice. Many thanks!!

The key is to learn not to press and hold it - treat it as a momentary input and just “click” it, unless you really do need a gross input. This is what RL pilots do and is the most realistic way.
Another thing you could try is to change the repeat rate of your keyboard - make it slower. You’d do this at the Windows level.

@Stevie stick hats are usually fbound through DX buttons, so keypress repeat has no influence on that.
Dx is a constant on or off -
@oakdesign - “usually”…which means it is not impossible to bind the buttons to keyboard commands, or to use a mix of assignments on any controller.
I had setup on my Mac install of Falcon 4.0 where I implemented proportional wheel brakes on my CH rudder pedals - I used the keyboard “k” tto toggle the Brakes, and the toe brake pots to modulate the key repeat rate base on position. The rudders was left to the Setup assignment. Worked great, and I wish I could find such an app I could use on a PC to do this.

@Stevie
Hi there many thanks!
I was privileged enough to get an civil pilot intrument rating so I am in tune with you, but as I said, the hat does seem very “coarse” and I wondered if there was an “easy” adjustment.
No problem, will learn to be “quicker on the trigger”
Thanks for the input and help - happy landings! -
@Mongoose I had some issues back when I mapped trim onto my Warthog stick. By mistake I mapped to some of the other trim callbacks and got poor results. Make sure that you are mapped to the 4 callbacks that start with “STICK: TRIM” + Up/down/left/right.
I would have placed a screenshot image here but do not have enough privileges, whatever that means. But you go into the Launcher, filter for “trim” and then you’ll be able to find 4 the mappings that you want to use, and a whole lot of other ones you want to avoid.
And then, as said, tap the trim, don’t hold it

@Mongoose - Coolness! I also hold a Private Pilot’s Certificate, and am an Aeronautical Engineer.
There are a lot of little HOTAS tricks you can do with the proper utilities. I have/had a utility for my Mac setup that allowed me to program/redirect controller inputs at will called ControllerMate. VERY powerful input programer with a graphical, flow-chart interface.
https://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate/
I did a lot of stuff with it - like swap my Trim hat between POV and Trim by double clicking my NWS button…or commanding Eject by press/hold of NWS and Paddle. And that thing I mentioned about proportional toe Brakes.
Unfortunately, something Apple did to Mac OS broke ControllerMate some time ago, though for some reason it still works on this Macbook Pro and none of my other machines. I’f I could figure out why I’d go “break” the installs on my other machines and get it back…I REALLY miss it, and I have yet to find anything as powerful for the PC - the developer says that Win architecture won’t allow it.
