When I upgrade a preinstalled (OEM) or retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 license to Windows 10, does that license remain OEM or become a retail license?**
If you upgrade from a OEM or retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 to the free Windows 10 upgrade this summer, the license is consumed into it. Because the free upgrade is derived from the base qualifying license, Windows 10 will carry that licensing too.
If you upgrade from a retail version, it carries the rights of a retail version.
If you upgrade from a OEM version, it carries the rights of a OEM version.
Full version (Retail):- Includes transfer rights to another computer.
- Doesn’t require a previous qualifying version of Windows.
- Expensive
Upgrade version (Retail): - Includes transfer rights to another computer.
- require a previous qualifying version of Windows.
- Expensive, but cheaper than full version
OEM :
OEM versions of Windows are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following: - OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel
- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on
- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard
- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system
What happens if I change my motherboard?
As it pertains the OEM licenses this will invalidate the Windows 10 upgrade license because it will no longer have a previous based qualifying license which is required for the free upgrade. You will then have to purchase a full retail Windows 10 license. If the base qualifying license (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) was a full retail version, then yes, you can transfer it.
15. UPGRADES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. Upon upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software you upgraded from. After you upgrade, you may no longer use the software you upgraded from

Ah, thanks MB. I have heard that if you were to completely change your hardware, then you can reinstall win7/8.1 and then go through the whole upgrade to 10, then clean install of 10 again. That will sort it out. What a faff!

Just upgraded from Win7 (64bit) to Win10 Pro. No issues at all (minor error warning from Fraps that Dx9 is not up-to-date… but Fraps works fine?) … everything else works like a champ. Love the new front-end on Win 10. BMS works fine no issues at all.

I have been flying my BMS 4.32 update 7 on Windows 10 without a problem since its installation.
The only problem I ran into on day 1 was the NVidia driver 353.30 and 353.62. With those drivers I couldn’t get in to the 3D world. So I uninstalled the NVidia drivers deleted the NVidia folder and rebooted. Windows installed its own driver and I haven’t looked back since.
Same driver issues for me, now on the window driver and works brilliantly. I was unable to launch(from menu) the sim without it crashing. Not looking back now.

I upgraded to 10 on Friday and I get random CTD’s during flight. I am enjoying 10, no problems through the upgrade itself, still getting used to it obviously. Not changed any settings, or installed any drivers. I have set the game to run in compatibility mode… Run as XP (SP3), Disable display scaling, Run as admin. What settings work for others?

I had an 8-inch tablet that was running 32-bit Windows 8.1. Notice the past tense. Don’t worry, my tablet is still in one piece. Now, I have a tablet running Windows 10. As far as flying BMS with Cougar is concerned, it works after a bit of fiddling.
Guess what’s the first thing I did after the upgrade? Well, sadly, it wasn’t BMS, it’s all those basic stuffs like drivers, a browser, anti virus and MS Office (I mostly use the tablet for work, actually). BMS was, however, the first thing I tried after all those were done.
I did a restore on my win 8.1 first since I ran into some trouble upgrading. The only thing I forgot was to note down what are the config I set in BMS. So I just installed and ran it with stock settings. It ran without crashes, but I crashed my plane (puns intended) since the frame rate is too low. Disabling a few things in the launcher increases the frame rate, though, so I guess I’ll need to find a sweet spot again.
I tried installing Cougar in it after successfully flew around in BMS (not that I would be using the Cougar with my tablet, just want to make sure it can work when the time comes I need to upgrade my gaming rig). I ran into a bit of problem here. I tried to install the 2007 vista driver but the drivers for “Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (IN)” and “Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (OUT)” kind of failed to install. In the end, I have to install TARGET first, and then install the 2007 Vista driver in order for them to work correctly. After that, I can uninstall TARGET and it still works (I have not used TARGET before, and I don’t want to redo all the configurations…)
My tablet is almost out of battery now, so I can’t test TrackIR. Like most smartphones, the tablet has one USB port for connections or charging I can’t actually do both at the same time, not without rigging some adaptor myself. That’s what I’ll do tomorrow. But all in all, I’d say Windows 10 is quite convenient, and is very similar to Mac OS X now (I guess that’s why they skip Windows 9… ).
EDIT:
I tested TrackIR this morning, it works as well. So I would say that BMS experience in Windows 10 is whole. -
Upgraded a test laptop to Win10 So far I have the following working:
Cougar HOTAS
Tusba Throttle
Saitek combat rudders
TM Cougar MFDs
Track IR (running 5.2.2)
Touchdown webservice software (ICP)So all the peripherals work, now to test 4.32.

The million Question: If Windows 8.1 has worked with me like a champ, do you suppose that Windows 10 will do the same ??

With Microsoft you never know. It’s still a mistery to me why every damn version they manage to break most of the device drivers. Since they announced this is the last version of Windows my guess is this will stop or your devices will just randomly stop working after any windows update. Debriefings like the one below might be the future.

I think for all new OS there would be a period of instability after release, no exceptions, it’s just about how severe and how quickly things would be fixed.
As far as general use goes, my experience so far is that it is much more convenient and very good for productivity. It’s very similar to Mac OS X now, with features that are analogous to Mac’s Spaces and Expose that are great way to find and organise your work when you opened too many windows. There are some rough edges to be polished, but nothing too bad.
And of course, BMS (and related peripherals) works.

Installed Win10 last night, and of course BMS. All works perfectly, Facetracknoir, cougar throttle with TUSBA, warthog stick, MFD cougar and saitek rudder.

For me, running Falcon in win7 compatibility mode did the trick. I’m using the DX functions and hence I think there was a prob with DX12 incompatibility.
Which version of this Win-10?
E.g. with Win-7, e.g. Win-XP-mode do not work with the home premium version… -
I have moved to Windows 10 with very little impact. I strongly suggest anyone who does move to Windows 10 to check that their hardware (mainly chipsets and motherboards and sound/graphics drivers have a Windows 10 supported driver). I noticed that everything works very well in Windows 10 but did have to update my motherboard and sound drivers to win10 drivers to make my Blue SNowball (microphone) work correctly. I also noticed my Saitek X55 Rhino needed reconfiguration as it was conflicting with my EDtracker and inputs were going a little haywire. Other than that I have had no other issues. Once drivers were updated it has been plain sailing. Below is a list of my hardware if it is relevant to anyone else…
Intel i7 4790k Devils Canyon
Asus Maximus Hero 7 Motherboard
Realtek 5.1 surround digital sound
AMD R9 390x Tri-x 8GB DDR5All of the above had new Windows 10 drivers ready to install.
Hope it helps.

All good so far……but note I did a clean install on another disk so I have unlimited time to roll back to a perfect version of 7
