Game will not run - system does not support resolution 1024x768
-
Hi guys.
I have just reinstalled Falcon 4.0 AF (Battlefield Operations) onto a new laptop, as the old one has sadly passed away. Trouble is, I can’t get it to run. I have disabled the intro movie, but that did not change anything.
I get an error message: Requested resolution 1024x768x16 not supported and that’s it, it crashes. Trouble is, I think my new Nvidia graphics cannot run at such a low resolution. Do you know of any way to circumvent this issue?
Any help would be very welcome
Thanks

BMS is not AF, right? I mean it’s not an add-on or compatible upgrade or anything like that.
Also, I’m not sure how much ‘tech support’ you’re going to get for AF on a BMS forum in the BMS Tech Support sub-forum.

Its more likely to be the color depth rather than the resolution that is the issue here. Try setting your desktop res to 1024x768 with 16 bit color. If it works, then at least you know your laptop is capable. Not that it helps with your AF problem of course. The best fix for that is uninstall it and load up BMS instead. Once done, an infinitely more rewarding version of Falcon awaits you. :thumbs-up:

I think you are right. Can’t figure out how to switch to 16-bit colours. will have to look it up somewhere. I hope BMS doesn’t require that. The reason I posted here was that I had an impression the regular falcon 4.0 would have no people anymore. I posted here, because I did want BMS, that was my plan, but thought I need to have a running version of Falcon beforeI can upgrade it to BMS. I will try to install BMS and see if it will work. Thank you for the quick response!

Well, to install BMS you will need an original Falcon CD. Falcon AF wont work for it. Doesnt need to be installed, but the BMS installer basically checks there is a falcon disc loaded before it installs.
BMS’ installer is a standalone one. Upgrading existing installs is a good way to make tech support work

Shrimp“6. What screen resolutions are supported?
There are cockpit resolutions of 1024x768, 1280x960 and 1600x1200 included with the product for each flyable type of F-16. Resolutions from 1024x768 upwards are supported and the cockpit graphics are scaled from the most suitable included resolution. Currently all screen resolutions must be 4:3 ratio.”http://www.lead-pursuit.com/faq_01.htm
If you have an external monitor that will display 4:3 ratio res, try that. If the game runs then that is your problem.
and/or
use the compatibility tab and select 16 bit color

A 4:3 native ratio monitor shouldn’t be required. Most displays, be them 16:10 or 16:9 or whatever should be capable of 4:3 resolutions, especially one relatively low such as 1024x768. I think you compatability tab call might be a good one though, at least he can get into the settings to change to a 32-bit option.
While we’re retro-gaming, any idea how to get IndyCar Racing 2 for Windows 95 to run on a Win7-64 bit machine?

Just to be clear there is NO upgrade path for Falcon4.0 or AF.
BMS is a standalone install that requires you to have “Falcon4.0.exe” on a disk on you machine. Ether optical or on your HD somewhere. (ie installed or not)
For AF do you Have “Falcon4AF_patch_1.0.13” installed ???
