I am importing the ITO F-4E IAF '73 model which has 13 texture sets as a replacement for the F-4F as an experiment, however, when I import a custom texture list with two texture-sets, it still defaults to the ITO textures/list. I can’t figure-out how to replace or edit the list. If I manually delete all but two texture sets worth of textures from the default texture list, it still saves/defaults to the original 130 .dds files allocated to 13 texture-sets…

        Wrong tool? Try from LE.

LE has no capability to change the DDS files by file name nor change the number of texture sets that I can see. If I just change the texture with LE, it changes the textures for all models using textures named in the texture list for the remaining texture-sets as LE just replaces whatever texture is set to [inset any four digit number].dds, it does not change the .dds file that texture is set to in the texture list.

In other words, if I replace 3032.dds in LE with another, it does not change what .dds file that portion of a mesh is tied-to. It only replaces the texture named 3032.dds. I need the change the texture list so that a .dds other than 3032.dds is used as the texture for that part of the model, as 3032.dds is used among multiple models and changing it in LE changes those other models, as well.

Additionally, the .dds files named in the remaining texture-sets are used by other models and changing them to match the current a/c adds textures from the current a/c to those other models, so it is desirable to eliminate the unused texture-sets named in the .lod/dxm being imported.

Sorry, it that’s vague, I’m not up on the technical terms for skinning/modeling…

You can change the texture numbers in LE so that models do not share the same .dds.

            1. Import you model that you want to replace the F-4F with using LE.
            2. Edit the first LOD in LE
            3. Select “Edit LOD” on the next page
            4. On “0.Root” in the right pane right click.
            5. On the left pane of the Node-Root pop-up select “Textures”
            6. In the LOD Texture Data highlight the texture you would like to change and enter the new texture number in window above the “Change” box. (You can also use the to add textures to a model as well.)
            7. Accept changes and save the LOD data.

It is a good idea to export unused textures to a file first and then change the .dds to one of the unused textures.

Thanks Rthorflech… I was bored to type the sequence.
IIRC it must be and in my hotlist.

I apologize, I’ve been using the wrong vocab all this time. In my install I have LE.exe and LE-dxllite. My assertion that this cannot be done in LE was directed at the latter while incorrectly citing the former…

Regarding the above: it doesn’t seem to work: there is only “Save LOD as” which does not update the objects file, just saves the lod which I then cannot seem to import. I can goto parent or ct records and Check data, then Update but then the texture list reverts to the original .dds files specified in the texture list rather than what I’ve entered w/ LE. That’s why I ask how to change the actual texture list…
