Hi just wondering if data cartridges can be set as you want them in the training missions as you can with other TE’s or in the campaign? what i found strange was in the instrument landing training mission, i pressed CMS left which released chaff and flares but in the data cartridge for the mission theres’ no set programs for them in EWS. In a tutorial i watched by Krause, he says that if you dont have these programs set then when you press chaff/flare release (CMS left and CMS forward are what i’ve found to release them) button then nothing will be released, is this the case? or does the data cartridge not apply in the training missions? only i was able to set comm freq to tower for landing in the basic handling TE with the data cartridge.

        CNS,
Were expendables actually released? My experience has been that yes, the CDMS programs must be defined in DTC for c/f to actually release. BTW, if you’re getting around to setting up EWS programs, that’s a good time to check out the Weapons Delivery Planner.

Yea they were released, saw flashes from the flares, betty saying “chaff flare” and the number of chaff/flares going down on my left console where the EWS is.

Also under modes in the data cartridge, all mastermodes are set up for MFD’s to be off, but in the training mission i can bring up the A-A FCR, HSD and SMS.

It appears to me that the data cartridge can be loaded only before takeoff, and in the case of BMS provided training missions, a ‘generic’ one is already loaded for sorties that start with your jet airborne.

Perhaps one of the developers can be more explicit.

Its the same for the ramp start TE. In the data cartridge settings, nothing is set for MFDs or anything. In game as i’m starting my jet up, after the left MFD completes BIT test and data cartridge is loaded, the FCR is there, the HSD is on the right (in fact the HSD is there as soon as the right MFD is powered up, but flight plan doesnt display on there until the INS is aligned and switched to nav) and i can also choose the TFR.

Ok and now i just went to test the data cartridge in a campaign mission. So i set the data cartridge with nothing, no settings at all, started the mission and there was my HSD and FCR, as well as SMS, HAD and flight plan was on the HSD…so why is it people say you have to configure your data cartridge settings before doing a mission?

I see theres’ a sticky thread about MFD’s being blank, well this hasnt been the case for me.

Just before trying to answer your question … did you read the “Data Transfer Cartridge” section of the BMS-Manual.pdf (Page13) ?

Yea i’ve read it about PPT’s…comms…TGT steerpoints…EWS…MFDs. But ah, think i’ve found out why i’m getting EWS/MFDs in game without inputting settings- just found in BMS 4.32>User>config…two files, one is ews_def the other mfd_def. So when entering a flight it must load up these default files which explains why i can expend chaff/flares and see my sensors on my MFD’s. One thing i have had to do was set the tower frequency in comms to preset 15 in UHF, so that explains that i think. Was that what you was gona say to answer my question?

Yea i’ve watched it before- thanks. What made me wonder was just what that sticky thread was about, saying if your MFDs are blank please read this….coz my MFDs ahve never been blank and i’ve never set my MFDs in the DTC in the UI before starting a flight.

If you’re wondering what i mean, here it is: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?5400-Are-your-MFDs-BLANK-after-change-master-mode-Read-here

Having said that- in the training missions i’ve flown so far, when changing to some other master modes my MFDs have been blank.

Your MFDs should come up in accordance with the settings you set in the data cartridge. Have you set your DTC?

No, nothing…but for example in the ramp start TE when i start my jet up my HSD is there functioning as is my FCR and flight plan on HSD. But like i said i think these are set by two default files in user>config.

Ramp start is different. You have to load your data cartridge once you are in the cockpit. It is not automatic.

Yea i did it too, on the FCR clicking DTE then clicking load. I noticed that i did have to set the tower in comms on the DTC but the others are already set. I’m guessing when you installed Falcon there were no DTC defaults, but now there are which i had when i installed the game.

But heres’ another thing, i downloaded the DTC made by Krause which he shares in a link attached to his tutorial, but i cant load it in game, and i saved it to the right folder which is the one i’ve mentioned. Falcon BMS 4.32>User>Config.

Correct…no default DTC settings after install. Have you set your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level (default) settings for your MFDs through the data cartridge?

No, nothing, havent set anything but they appear in game, at least in NAV mode….but even for NAV mastermode in the DTC they’re all set to MFD off. I’m guessing they appear in game due to those ews_def and mfd_def files in user>config.

Best bet is to setup your MFD settings in the data carthridge. If you use WDP, it is a lot easier (to me) to set them up there.

The DTC file must match your logbook username exactly. You should see an ID on the DTE MFD page prior to load.

I tweaked my DTC and did the ramp start TE and everything came up as what i entered, only i didnt get to test to see if chaff/flares got released. They shouldnt be released as i didnt set any programs for them, i’ll try this out later.

I just looked in my config folder in the BMS install folder (Falcon BMS 4.32>user>config) and i could see my new saved DTC on there and yea, my callsign is Viper and i see Viper there. Theres actually one file for configuration settings, one that says LBK file, another is PLC file and another called POP file….happy days.
