AMRAAM
-
I bought Falcon 4 back when it originally came out, and recently got back into it. So many changes that I’ve had to retrain. Anyway….has anyone else noticed that if you fire a AIM-120 they will often lock onto and destroy a different target? This is especially bad with the AI as they often hit friendly aircraft. I was recently shot down by my own wingman. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Keepl the soft lock as long as you can do, MCGs are good reason in RL. I guess it is modeld in BMS4 either.

NEVER fire an AMRAAM into a furball/dogfight.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve already figured out to not use them to fire into a dogfight with friendlies near, but the AI doesn’t seem to get it. They do fire them into dogfights and kill many friendly aircraft. Perhaps the next patch could modify the AI to not fire them when friendlies are within 5 or 10 miles of the target?

… and a corollary : if you dont want to get shot at by a friendly AI 120, dont go into a furball/dogfight
Seriously though, if you have BVR weapons, you should lead your flight so that you always keep your distances with the enemy. To do that, AWACs is a good help. Turing around or away is also a perfectly viable option if it allows you to stay on top of things.
Implementing CAF (Clear Avenue of Fire) for AI might be a good idea, although we should make 100% sure this will not cause unwanted behavior like AI never firing in BVR.
