First, a huge thank you for this early Christmas present.

I’ve only had time to make sure its running but I’ve already run into a small problem.

None of the campaign briefing videos play. They work fine on 4.32 but I’m getting nothing with 4.33 64 BIT Works fine on 32 BIT. I’ve searched and nobody else seems to have reported the problem.

      Any thoughts or advice?

Never mind, updated my codecs and all is good.

ffdshow is not included in the installer. BMS currently does not install any codecs at all, they need to be installed manually if you want the videos to play.

The simplest solution is install an “all in one” codec pack such as the “Mega” version, which has everything you need built in:
        http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

If you’ve downloaded and installed the “Mega” pack you can stop reading now. It will work in both 32-bit and 64-bit exes.

The alternative is to get “pure” ffdshow builds from here:

        64bit: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffds…-bit%20builds/

        32bit: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffds…eric%20builds/

While the ffdshow installation comes with a 64-bit part, it is lacking a corresponding x264/vfv 64-bit decoder, which we need for 64bit movie playback. So ffdshow loads fine, but can not find an x264 64-bit codec that works with the (truly obsolete) “Video For Windows” system on 64-bit.

Go for the top “Looking for the latest version?” link from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/files/x264vfw/

If you’ve been able to watch the videos in 32-bit mode and you’re wondering why, it’s because you’ve probably still got the 32-bit ffdshow codec/decoder installed from a previous Falcon 4 installation 😉https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23687-Videos-not-playing-in-BMS-4-33

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but i installed The 64 bit FFDshow and I still don’t get videos. Is there a special setting in show I need to check?

I have installed this specific one: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/SVN%20builds%20by%20clsid/64-bit%20builds/ffdshow_rev4533_20140929_clsid_x64.exe/download
like Darkman suggested in windows 7 with SP1 x64 and the videos now seemed correctly (BMS 4.33).
              Nikos.

                Just tried two 64bit decoder…But still …
I think there might be other reasons for why the videos failed to be played…

                  Update :

Actually, there seems to be a problem even if you do install ffdshow manually - for some reason, only the ffdshow provided with 4.32 make videos play - and only in 32 bits.

So no permanent fix so far, apparently 😞

I’ve installed both 32bit and 64bit of ffdshow, intro video shows just fine.

Hello fellow Pilots! I am still having problems, I have tried the above suggestions. I am using Windows 10, could that be the issue as I know Win 10 isn’t the preferred OS. The sim is running great otherwise, I haven’t tried to view in game movies, I am just guessing that if the intro dosen’t play the others won’t, correct? Thanks again.
EDIT: Yep, no movies in game. Will keep working on this.

Both ffdshow and x264vfw need to be installed.

Ffdshow x86, not necessary if you don’t plan to use 32 bits exe: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/SVN%20builds%20by%20clsid/generic%20builds/

Thank You Switch!! Adding X264vfw did the trick! I had already installed ffdshow x64. Please tell the moderators to “STICKY” this to the front page for us Windows 10 users. Thanks again.

Hey thanks. It is the x264 decoder that solve the problem.
It is strange that the AVI videos need that thing…

Ok, given the confusion above I’ve closed this thread and stickied a new one with correct information and 2 options, the simple all in one “Mega” pack and the alternative install 2 or 3 codecs and decoder separately.

                                      https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23687-Videos-not-playing-in-BMS-4-33

This should hopefully make it quicker and simpler for anyone new to this problem finding a solution.

Thank you to everyone who has helped, given feedback and confirmed what works.
