Can this alt be correct?
-
Hi,
just took a little flight “through the world” and made some low pass:
But can this be correct? To me it looks like 500ft (or so).
And yes, I called tower for the settings…Greeting

Assuming you requested QNH, it’s important to know that QNH references your altitude Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL). If you’d want your height above the ground, you’d use radar altitude or - when close to the airfield - QFE.
More info on altimetry can be found in this powerpoint presentation.

First: Thank you!
Second<lg>: I’ve never noticed that before, and I beg your indulgence, I do not know yet exactly the names… (and I’m on Linux Mint yet).
I snap the HUD/ALT view switch (right console) two times up, as you can see in the pics.
And with this setting, when I flew with 4.3.2 and I flew over a ridge of a mountain (e.g.) I always had 30ft (or so) in low pass. That’s the reason I asking here…BTW: Can trees hit the a/c?</lg>

Is your Radar Alt even on? - you should have the radar altitude box below the HUD altitude reading.
I think trees are not collide-able - haven’t tested it

Always like you can see in the third and the fifth pic…
If I’m back on Win-7 in the evening I will try with others settings for the alt view in the HUD.
But IIRC with 4.3.2 I the HUD shows me e.g. over a ridge of a mountain 30ft (or so). But I’ve still installed 4.3.2 and I can have again a look.Trees: I do not want to crash, so do not dare to try

About Pressure altimeter, take a read here :http://www.skybrary.aero/index.php/Altimeter_Pressure_Settings

They are not. (would probably have a dramatic cost in terms of FPS.)

Check your HUD panel and make sure the ALT switch is set to OFF.

Dash 1 chapter 1.2.5.3
• The ALT switch is a three position switch labelled RADAR, BARO and AUTO and is relevant to the altitude scale on the right of the HUD.
RADAR - the altitude tape indicates radar altitude.
BARO - the altitude tape indicates barometric altitude.
AUTO - the altitude tape indicates barometric altitude above 1500 feet and switches to radar altitude below 1500feet.you are in BARO, switch to auto or at least display the RALT as said above

Always like you can see in the third and the fifth pic…
Your radar alt is switched off - if it was on then you should have a big R in the HUD to the left of the altitude reading when the HUD is set to Radar Alt mode.
Should add it is off by default in the training missions in the air - in 432 it was always on.

Should add it is off by default in the training missions in the air - in 432 it was always on.
You can fix that either with WDP or by editing your DTC manually. In user/Config/[callsign].ini, find
RALT= (digit) ```and put 2 instead of whatever the digit is. 0 is Off, 1 is STBY, 2 is ON.
-
Should add it is off by default in the training missions in the air - in 432 it was always on.
it is indeed a DTC setting, so on or off in the air dépends on your pilot.ini file not the training missions
-
Hi,
in my …\User\Config\Earlybite.ini there is no RALT, also not in Viper.ini…
-
As Crus said, use WDP:
there is one in mine:[SNSR_PWR]
RALT=2 -
-
Assumed it was done intentionally to make people check their switches!
I dont have the slightest idea why it changed between version, TBH
-
Yep, all fine. Thanks to all for your helpful postings!
