High Guys
Quick question in regards to Joystick/Throttle support for BMS 4.33.
Is it easier / better to use a Thrustmaster Cougar, or Warthog…assuming I’m looking for plug and play (non scripting/programming skills)?
I have both the Thrustmaster Cougar with the Real-Sim pressure sensitive mod and the Warthog HOTAS.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Hi Stang, impressive choice of gear. I’d stay with the Cougar, just because of the mod and keep the warthog because it’ a nice piece of equipment, too. As I remember correctly it’s a little bit difficult to install the Cougar on Win7, but the way to do it is described somwhere here in the forum.
Programming both sticks need a little bit of knowledge, but there are ready to use profiles for both to download. -
put the WH handle on the cougar.
it will work as they are compatible.
and the feeling of the WH is much better then the cougar stick (trappiest set of tactiles ever!) -
Thanks Guys
If I use the Warthog Throttle and the Cougar Stick…is there a profile for such a beast?
If so, where would I find profiles to download them?
Thanks again for the help Guys

Getting the Cougar to work within win7 is described here:
Beside that you can just fire up BMS and use the BMS-Full keyfile found at Setup - Controllers - Load

Just try plugging in and check to see what works in the Setup/Controls UI. I was pleased to find that 4.33 had all the controls pre-set with my Cougar selected. I think I had to set the rotaries, but all the buttons and switches were in order and even my right MFD was set correctly.
A bit off topic, but…
I know there are a lot of people who have imported their old keyfiles from 4.32 into 4.33, but I didn’t have much problem making the transition and the Devs did a great job organizing the menu in the UI. It is just what you get used to I guess. I haven’t heard of any problems (and I’m curious if anyone else has) associated with importing keyfiles from the previous version, but it may cause issues down the road when asking for help on forums about callbacks, etc.
-
HOTASView.exe is not part of the latest Target software or the Foxy software….thus you can’t calibrate, flash or download to a Cougar.
WOW…this is frustrating!!

Have you been here? You can still install on newer OS, but you need to do so in compatibility mode. Here are a couple of other helpful links…

What I did too.

I’ve imported an older keyfile and had no problems after manually adding the callbacks for the second Tower communications page.
I have a Cougar, and the reason I don’t just use the supplied keyfile is that I’ve used Foxy’s programming to make my Cougar do things the real stick doesn’t do. For example, in addition to the TMS doing everything it does in the real jet, mine can also jettison stores or toggle the landing gear.
It’s not the most realistic solution, but it means I virtually never have to reach for the keyboard or mouse, which are even more detrimental to the suspension of disbelief.

What does that mean? Can you please elaborate?
It’s the pot in my aging Cougar throttle that really drives me nuts, though…

Newness is what’s required in your throttle. Search the boards as I remember someone posting the p/n for the pot. TM don’t have any

Build yourself a switch panel to handle that. More realistic, and less disbelief!
Can be done quite cheaply too.
