Enable Custom Axis Shaping
-
Anybody know why the option in Settings/Controllers/Advanced/View Control “Enable Custom Axis Shaping” does not light up. After reading the description in the new 4.33 manual, I thought this might fix the problem I got with my CH Products throttle microstick, where my FCR cursor seems to float around. Based on the description in the 4.33 manual, I thought it meant that the CH calibration routines would take control of the CH Throttle microstick in Falcon BMS. But I can’t test that because the “Enable Custom Axis Shaping” does not light up. Why doesn’t it?
Edit: I found this on page 4-47 of the new 4.33 BMS Manual: “If it does not light up it means that an error occurred while reading the axis curve file.” Now what can I do to fix this?

Have you tried to delete the joystick calibration & mapping files in the config folder? Beware that will delete all joystick calibration, so backup files first

My understanding is that for the custom axis shaping enable to succeed there must be valid custom axis shaping files in the user/config folder.
However these files are only made by some long-forgotten program which we only know about written on cave walls. I think the files are axisshaping.dat or something like this. I’ve never seen one ever ever.

Red Dog, at your suggestion I tried deleting the axismapping.dat, jc1.pop, and joystick.cal. Then I tried to light up “Enable Custom Axis Shaping”, but it didn’t light up. Then I did the Controller settings all again and tried to light up “Enable Custom Axis Shapping” but it still didn’t light up. So deleting and redoing the Controller settings had no effect on “Enable Custom Axis Shaping”.
I’m sure you know that the CH Products Pro Throttle (as well as their Fighterstick and Pro Pedals) have calibration routines, including axis curves. The BMS 4.33 manual on page 4-47 talks about “Optional axis response curve information is stored in a file called axiscurves.cal.” I never see that file. The axiscurves.cal must be the one that Frederf is also talking about.
Do the CH Products calibration routines have any effect in Falcon BMS? What is that axiscurves.cal file and where does it come from?

indeed. Can’t say I don’t now anything about the CH stuff. Sorry mate

You need the curve editor tool (or an equivalent) to make the binary file that has the custom curves in it. The code behind the UI checkbox looks for that file and won’t enable without that file in the config directory. The tool in question is not part of the release content. It was for a long time not even possible to build it and update it. There’s discussion about fixing it up and making it more broadly available but for now it’s in the “watch this space” category only.
