How to slave the TGP to the FCR?
-
When you first dial up the TGP it’s slaved to the FCR. Slew the FCR and the TGP slews too.
Once I get to playing with the TGP it won’t slew with the FCR anymore. I can press CZ to point it at the FCR’s cursor, but how do I go back to the state where they slew together?
-
I occasionally have the same problem. I havent played in a few weeks but I think TMS aft with the TGP as SOI then switching to the FCR as SOI usually does it. When it doesn’t, I deselect then reselect A2G mode.

Hi guys
Please :rtfm:
TGP can be in tracking mode (AREA, POINT, Rates) or in slave mode. When in tracking mode, you CAN’T make it follow FCR because it is tracking. the meaning of “track” regarding avionics is same as “lock” if you like to think of it that way. So while AREA mode allows you to slew the TGP head, its still a tracking mode and when you tell the TGP to track, it doesn’t make sense that you would like it to be slaved to FCR.
Cheers!

That’s both rude and unhelpful. I did RTFM – as recently as this morning. I need some further assistance. I thought that’s what this forum was for. Am I mistaken?
You haven’t told me how to get it back into slave mode, and neither does the f**king manual.
Geez.

But did you actually read the manual first? … If yes … it is always good to precise it before asking your question so that we may refer to it to show you what you’ve missed …

Press SP on mfd button 8 i think and then Tms up.
Sp stánds for Snowplow mode
You can read about in manual page 94 Falcon Bms manual
Dont forget to switch to mfd with fcr to SOI first.
SOi stands for Sensor of Intrest or something Page 73Press dms down to change Soi. (DMS stands for display management Switch)

Dude… maybe you aren’t familiar with Falcon and general forums. RTFM is a kind of expression for - “Go get and read the manual before you ask such questions”. And yes I know the literal words sound a bit rude but it’s kind of half a joke as we don’t allow such language used here anyway, to start with.
Now that said. When I say RTFM I do not mean for BMS manual only, but I mean for ALL relevant manuals, if you would like specifics then please try Original F4 manual, SP3 manual, SP4 manual if you like, BMS -1 and BMS -34. Now of course you can choose what you like to read or not and what’s relevant or not, just don’t expect me to NOT sent you RTFMing when you don’t know what is TGP slave mode and/or what TMS-AFT is doing for TGP.
And more, if you at least were serious enough to test what is the difference, you could at least notice that the TGP isn’t following FCR when it is in AREA/POINT/RATES modes, and it is following when none of this present, and then your questions would have been:
“Hey how do I get TGP back to slave mode?”That would at least showed that you see the difference and that you tried to figure out (which if you did, might have sent you to RTFM, anyway :))

Man, stuff like this is such a turnoff to someone who’s new to the forum. Makes me want to never come back. I feel like I’m in high school and you guys are the mean girls.
I have read every manual. WTF is this forum for if not for people who still have questions after having read the manual?
-
Thing is to one, not take things personally or respond emotionally. As well understand you may have to think before you may ask a question whether it be simple or complex. Did I just give up quickly and turn to ask for a simple solution without fully understanding everything in detail or do I just want to actually learn and develop my knowledge of the sim or whatever the topic may be.
-
Thank you guys, I am very grateful for specific and rapid response
no problem,cheers :nosep:

I’m not sure why are you taking my words in such a way. I answered your question in the first post and you only paid attention to the “RTFM” remark which was said with half a smile half joke, anyway.

Of course you can (and must
)… after reading the manual like you did …
But you must admit that most ppl don’t read manuals (sometime, even don’t search for an answer before asking) … so, don’t blame us to check.

Am I missing something here? If you are tracking an area for example with the TGP, you should simply TMS aft and switch to FCR to continue moving the TGP cursor with the FCR right?
Also just a tip. If the target is not near a waypoint use your FCR, or HUD to mark a new waypoint and then just switch waypoints and your TGP will automatically slew to the new waypoint provided you TMS back first. Also by switch to another waypoint and back to your previous waypoint the TGP and FCR will quickly go back to the target area.

Hi Blunder Welcome Dood!
I know how you feel bud some guys here are genuine thou and want to help you and some aren’t in general ( ALL FORUMS I mean) but thats not the point, a few weeks ago I sat in a park going thru this C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Docs\Falcon 4 Legacy Manuals\1 …… Falcon 4.0 the Original Manual … but the hard copy one also I printed out this https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?9763-BMS-Dash-One-Manual-4-32 awesome whilst I was watching my kids play and you know I learn more reading not saying you didn’t or dragging this out further than it needs to but I read it in past years and going thru it all again really WoWed me F4 is really kool I’m coming back to it personally.
My point is that everyone is correct and everyone is wrong why because the internet does not show the emotion the intent or the person sometimes I hate the internet for that reason and sometimes I love it, can be allot of fun and simple too.
Many misunderstandings over the wire look at youtube comments oh boy hate that.
Most these guys are here day in day out and see it all dont get upset but I do understand I’m like you I only posted because in the past I never wanted anything to do with Forums or Social sites because of what I address here and what happens on net in general.
Most of these Q? are fine to ask there is no harm in them although its like a coin it has two sides the same Q? most likely has been asked several times over several posts and over several threads of course you are not to know that you just logged on not a problem I had a few experiences like that its just how it works you ask they respond alike regarding to what I explained above.
I wasn’t going to post but then I thought I should why because I want to offer help on both sides of the fence which is understanding because I care sims are great we people go off in tangents we dont want to go off in.
So I understand I-Hawk DeeJay and others responses now but for you yeah it would have seemed different like I said a coin has two sides
Not to long ago I didn’t even know what a search bar was or a Forum now I know the functions inside out like linking text etc…
I’m just another member here sometimes the best advice is to read the manual why because its all there especially the original Microprose Falcon 4.0 Manual which is above and thats why they encourage that.
I think that little ( RTFM ) looks insulting but has good intent behind it.
Maybe its time to change it BMS I dont know just saying.
I only hope this post helps others also I am not singling you out but all people this post is long winded I know a little like the Master and the Grasshopper from Kung-Fu series hehehehe but I hope more guys come on board F4 concept and join the fun and get along, thats my intent of this post!
Most sims are consuming and require much patience with people and the actual sim itself heck for some it takes years I’m about 60-70% but dont play enough my real life commitments are getting in the way and I’m sloppy with sim operations.
I’ve also purchased some folders and printed off heaps of reading material and I also have a library of video’s Tyrspawns Tutorials found here https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?5822-Krause-s-BMS-Tutorials …… and more stuff off youtube as time rolls I study.
Some guys here have been committed since F4 was released I’m coming back to it as my new found hobby.
I’m most likely a on and off simmer because of real life…but treasure all the the whole F4 concept and material… damn its free…these manuals are great.
I had a chat with another guy he was saying gee its very deep learning curve I asked how long does it take you to get your points and add-ons in other PC or Xbox games at least 6 months right playing a little every night the same with F4!
The way I got back into it is simply start playing try this try that click here click there if you crash restart bite by bite it all comes together.
I said it to another guy also dont be scared just start playing experiment you will find you learn and teach yourself things LoL
I did anyway silly me…
Well like I said its mainly all fun blame the internet
Cheers bud SkyKnight your wingman,
:drink:

I believe it’s a bug. Everytime I switch to the HAD display on one of the MFDs, the TGP goes ballistic (if it was active on the other MFD). By “ballistic” I mean it stops responding… I can ground stabilise the cursor and I can slew it around after that, but TMF-back returns it to some kind of a default position instead (usually somwhere in the rear hemisphere) of slaving it to the radar cursor. I could be wrong, of course, but I’ve looked through all of the manuals cover to cover and didn’t find any other explanation. Maybe someone can replicate this.
I’ve set my left MFD to default to HAD, so maybe there’s an issue with that (and not having the HAD loaded or sth.) -
@SkyKnight:
Some guys here have been committed
I have been 3 times but keep escaping.
-
oh yeah, forgot the mention the solution to your problem. Just switch through the programmed A/G modes with the backspace, and you should be fine…
-
Hi, i know it can be frustrating trying to find the answers to this stuff quickly…basically, if you have not understood already from the previous answers, you need to go TMS aft ( which “unlocks” the TGP from a bugged target) while the MFD that the TGP is displayed on is SOI. ( if its not SOI, you wont be able to “unlock” the previous bugged target) Then switch SOI to the radar, press CZ ( cursor zero) on the MFD to zero the cursor, then press SP to go into snowplough mode ( If you dont do this, the radar will be slaved to whatever steerpoint you have selected) then press TMS forward to ground stabilise , at which point you now slew the cursors and the TGP will be slaved to them again….
simples!!

Backspace? Isn’t that one of those old Falcon 4 not-in-the-real-jet commands?
