Ok Let’s shed some light on it… Shall we?

I downloaded both and managed to get weather data and make animations. but all that is just Grib format. How do we convert them to Falcon. is there a converter app or we do or manually?

Meaning take screenshots from Grib and try and setup the same in Weather commander?

I don’t see any import export selections or whatever. Also about matching the areas on both programs? meaning Grib map with Falcon map calibration we do that by the eye? or there is a way to fixate. afterall it’s weather not lgb’s.

I open the Grib file with ZyGrib so the grib format becomes visual on a map. And Then I redo the same kind of weather manually with Weather commander.
So for now I do them manually yes.

I agree we need some articles on that one as well. If nobody does one in the near future, I was planning to do one anyway.
Once all Tools are final and stop changing all over the place, I’m sure WC, MC and WDP manuals will be updated as well

          Ouch.

Maybe some kind of screenshots from grib and maybe with photoshop replace colors to much weather color code, then import to weather commander?

Well tbh it doesn’t take much time to paint WC as you can adapt brush sizes. The most time consuming factor is analysing the grib data I reckon

Do you want a tool to read that weather file and make a weather map for 4.33? That would be a nice project……
              Arty, what do you think?

Something that can make a series of weather maps with the timestamp in the file name would go rather well with the auto update feature I think…

A tool which can read a GRIB weather file or a series of such files and make a series of weather maps for 4.33, named so that the time and campaign day they take effect is part of the file name, would be a particularly good complement to the map auto updates feature found in 4.33.

Ok…found GRIB format…it is not difficult to parse it…it is boring though. Will take a look on that later.
In my mind, it would be interesting to download the weather data (automatically) from a given server and then load it in BMS. The pilot could print all WX relevant information on the briefing (and perhaps) distribute (automatically) to other pilots in the mission.

                      Any thougths?

That is of course the idea behind the auto update function.

the idea beeing to have an external plug in that reads every 6 hours a GRIB file and convert to Fmap format and save in the autoloading format…

be aware though that for the moment, when loading a new map, there is no smooth transition…

this is on my to do list but is kind of PITA…

for your information i intend to include in the map itself the cumulus coverage and the cumulus thickness…but i made the choice not to do it for the moment since not every rigs are able to have correct FPS with cumulus coverage max…

Ok…I like the idea of this small project. I think I can finish it. The question is, before I starting decoding the GRIB: Is the weather map file format available? Is there any ~API( even a .h would help) available? If it is not available, is the BMS team willing to share it for this project?

Love the idea of having real life weather in falcon!
I indeed was hoping that there would be somekind of converstion tool from grib to fmap 😞
Curious on how this further develops… Go tbuc! 😄

Already sent an email to Falcas but got no reply yet. He is probably busy with other things.

One thing I won´t do, is to start decoding the GRIB to find out that the formats of fmap/twx are not available. I did that mistake in the past with my DB Manager. I have though an idea how the fmaptwx are formatted but it is too much work to hack 2 files to find out that in the next BMS version, I will have to hack them again, because they changed.

BTW, I have a concept on how to morph the weather dynamically in BMS when the real weather changes a lot.
