TFR quick question

Quick question - is there any point to using TFR NORM mode, when I can just use WX instead all the time? These new avionics are awesome…

You wont see the HUD arrows pointing left or right indicating terrain on the side - like if you are on a valley, for ex.
EDIT : nope, see ataribaby’s post below.

Thanks L3 - more RTFMing required! I guess I missed that bit in the tutorial.

Umm. I did the LANTIRN TE the other day, and selected WX mode shortly aftrr takeoff. I still got the TERRAIN cueing in the HUD, though.

WX obviously applies a different filter to the raw video to generate the stored terrain for the system to use. It’s also much shorter range to conclude stored terrain from raw video (2.5 v 6 miles). WX also does not scan as far up in elevation. I would be very cautious about raindrop sized obstacles while in WX (suspended wires, open steel towers, poorly reflective terrain, other airplanes) and in very steep terrain (as reduced upscan and short range lead to last minute surprises).
TFR pattern width should be the same NORM/WX at 4 bar scan, 2 in VLC, 1 in LPI.

Frederf is all right, WX has less look ahead range cos that weather “filter”. You can see it on TFR MFD scope, returns are shorter.
LPI (Low Probability of Intercept) missing <- TERRAIN -> cues as far I remember.
In addition LPI doesn’t provide steering autopilot, this is not modeled currently, will be in U1.

Thanks for the input, time for me to retest all this

Wow. Steering on TFR. Cool

Agree. It is nice to steer while TFR is active.
