Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals Durability
-
So my F4 rig is down for MX for a little while. My rudder pedals have for the last month or so had this unusual behavior, where if I advance both toe brakes at the same time, the right one is about 20% further advanced than the left one.
Naturally this has caused me some consternation during taxiing, particularly when braking.
Upon disassembly, its become apparent that the issue is due to the toe brake axle moving slightly within its housing, in turn due to the saddles holding it in place being less restrictive, that itself in turn due to one of the saddles having broken. The axles had not moved particularly much, but it was enough to mean that the potentiometer was reading a different part of its range due to the movement.
I intend to replace the saddle, which is just a small plastic block. I can probably machine a new piece out of acrylic. Im a little concerned about the potential life of the pedals however. Ive had them for about 3 years, and I did not get them brand new. On disassembly a number of design flaws are becoming apparent. Small broken pieces of plastic inside the casing, far too many screws used in the design, and an almost entirely plastic construction all worry me. Is it just going to break again when next I brake?
If you have or have had the Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals, how long have/did yours last(ed)? Is there any rudder pedals out there people would recommend for replacement? If you have a cockpit, what pedals did you use?

Was just about to post to request some help with key files but saw this thread first - I know a good few guys on DCS who use MFG Crosswinds and rave about them. If you have the cash to spare they seem to be the best out there.

Doesnt the Slaw Device go for a similar price range?
I think when this one does finally die, I may just make its replacement. Im kinda hoping this one can eke out a cheap existence for a little while longer, because while I want something higher end than those, I cant really afford stuff even half that price at the moment

Think the Crosswinds are a bit cheaper than Slaw - €320 compared to about €450. Heard good things about Slaw too. You won’t go wrong with either one but yeah it’s a chunk of cash to lay down for a peripheral. They might end up being cheaper in the very long run though as they’d likely run for 10 years with no problems.
