As I have always done with updates over the years, I replaced the default brakwind.ogg with a custom ‘beeping’ brakwind.ogg, but it appeared to have no effect. I tried in two different TEs (Landing and Maverick), with the plane in the air and at speed. Outside view confirms that the speedbrakes are extending, but I do not hear the beeps while in cockpit.

Any insights? (without editorials about the ‘need/realism’ for a beeping speedbrake sound, please)

You are a man of your words. You did tell me way back that you were taking a break until 4.33 arrived. Welcome back!

Try to increase volume of the .ogg? Outside noises are very very low now compared to 4.32. Maybe it just needs a few more decibels.

There were a lot of other major life-changing things going on, so I needed to take a break anyway. But glad to be back. 🙂

OldGoat, you were right. When I slid the ‘External Sounds in Cockpit’ slider ALL THE WAY to the right, which in 4.32 was ridiculously loud, I could then JUST BARELY make out the sound of the beep in the background noise when I extended the speedbrakes.

HUGE difference, as you noted, in the ‘outside noises’ mix in 4.33. No way anyone could possibly hear the default slightly increased speedbrake noise now at any reasonable slider level. I guess I’ll work on drastically increasing the decibel level of the custom brakwind.ogg, as you suggested. Thanks for the input.

EDIT: Using AUDACITY, I amplified the beep portion only by 10x and it’s perfect once again. 🙂

You are far too kind, Shadow, but I look forward to flying with you again. I don’t think I want to get so deeply involved as I was in the 72VFW. I just want to have a few friends that I can MP with now and then, and I count you as one of them. 🙂

So much effort for realism and you guys want a beeping sound to alert you if the speedbrake is open, as if there is no other way to confirm its status.

Well in defense to this subject you miss out on the RL feelings/feedback you would get when opening speedbrakes so it is just replacing one with another.

I’m sitting at a desk…there’s nothing realistic about this. 😉 I have to twist my head like a parakeet to see if my speedbrake is open, squint and try to zoom in. It’s a pain.

er, no, you dont. You need to look down to your left auxiliary console and check the speedbrake indicator. If its got 9 dots, its open. If its got the word CLOSED on it, its closed.

Alternately, you could just hold down the speedbrakes closed command. Thats what I do normally.

Fair enough then. You lads can use any mod you want. You can use a mod altering you that youre at Vmil for all I care.

Just don’t ask or wish for future updates to include them for you.

I really think you know what I mean about realism. I also sit at my desk. I also don’t wear a helmet and oxygen mask ( cough cough for some.)

If I owned a helmet and oxy mask, I would so wear that while simming.

Id probably also want to see if I could rig the mic to work through the mask, and get the helmet to play IVC and betty for me. Possibly some kind of breathing apparatus for the mask, so that IVC sounds more realistic…

In your blind quest for “realism” you forget that most of us, older guys, wouldn’t be allowed any where near a real jet, were half blind, suffer from hearing problems, cant even touch our toes & if we did manage to climb into a pit probably could get out without the help of a high lift.

Elitist, are the rest of us second class Falcon lovers.

How about giving the rest of us a break.

I was fortunate enough to meet a guy who although had a tragic accident and was left paralyzed from the waist and down, is larger than life and puts us “able” to shame.
He has been close and allowed into and F-16. Yeah he was helped in by a lift.

What if you just let people do what they want ?

I want realism too, but I really won’t mind for a little beeping.

Think of the people who don’t have a Track Ir, or even the one that are just annoyed at searching those 9 dots all the time, I don’t have a Track IR and it’s a real pain in the tail to know if my AB are out or not, and I often prefer to switch to 3rd person, which is an even more realism killer.
