Wingman Commands sometimes nonexistent in 4.33…
-
Good Day, all.
To be honest, I’m not exactly new to the Falcon universe and all, or BMS for that matter. However, I have noticed that with some of these theaters coming out for download, there is no control over wingmen available during Campaign missions. I understand that this feature is connected to the VHF frequency, but I haven’t been able to figure it out in some cases. For example, take the Balkans Theater for 4.33. No matter which campaign I start, when I choose a unit stationed at Aviano AB, I enter the prescribed UHF and VHF freqs as per the BMS charts. The Airbase’s Tower comes up just fine. However…when I tune COM2 to 142.05 (as prescribed)… no options to command the wingmen in my element or flight. Is there something that I am missing??? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Works fine here. Random ATO-generated flight in one campaign. Out of Aviano. Joined in flight. Expected wingman commands are available and working. Tried on a preset Victor as well as 142.05. No problems.
I think you have to be airborne for the commands to be on. Also are you on up front controls (UFC on the CNI switch … middle left panel)?
BTW, victor comms (Comm2) is normally not set to the airbase freq. It’s set to an intra-flight channel … either a preset or an agreed freq.

Well, if that is the case, is the preset a standardized freq? If not, how do I find out what it is? I’m getting this problem whether or not I’m airborne. Radio is controlled by the UFC. And i’m getting the problem while flying with AI wingmen.

I’ve never noticed that it mattered which preset you were on. However, there was a table with the intended use of presets in one of the BMS docs.
I am also referring to AI wingmen.
Just to clarify, is this a problem with wingman menu (“W” …. ) not having options, or is it that you don’t hear the wingman response, or is that the wingman doesn’t do what you say?
If it’s the menu and/or menu options, I’m not sure why/how that would happen. If the menus are OK, but you don’t hear the response, is your comms switch (left side, below HMCS knob) on “Both” and is the volume up for both Comm1 and Comm2?
If the AI wingman doesn’t listen to you/doesn’t do what you say, this was programmed in to the sim to prepare our younger simmers for marriage.

Heh heh, very funny. I am actually using the Element (E) and Flight
menus to communicate. It is those menus that are grayed out, no matter what Victor preset I have. My COMM Switch is always on BOTH, and the volume is up for both radios. Where exactly would that intended preset table be located?

Ok. 2-ship, 3-ship or 4-ship flight?
In a 2-ship, those (E & R) don’t work, iirc. Only the “W” to control AC #2.
In a 4-ship, the “E” works for #3 & #4. The “R” works for all, but only in a 3 or 4-ship (again, iirc).
Also, you must be the lead to control #2 and #3 and #4. Not sure if you are #3, if you’ll have control over #4 or not.

For presets, check x:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\BMS-Manual.pdf, section 7.6.2 Radios in the Falcon4 BMS World

Alright, will do. I shall get beck to you on that later. I appreciate it.

According to previous (4.32) manual what matters is frequency. The array of frequencies are what matches the 14 UHF and 14 VHF default presets. Examples of valid frequencies:
297.5 Mhz
294.7 Mhz
286.4 Mhz
132.325 Mhz
121.7 Mhz28 valid frequencies for AI own flight in total. Apparently frequencies which match default 15-20 channels are not valid nor are air traffic control frequencies.

Good News!
I found out that the command was mapped to a different keystroke. So, I changed it back, edited my profile and voila! I can communicate with my wingman now. I greatly appreciate the help, thank you.
