Firing Mav question
-
In 4.33, can you simply fire a Mav using the FCR as a lock and adjusting your Mav to the target w/o going thru the tgp boresight process? Seems that when I change a strike loadout in the campaign from gbu’s to ag65d’s and lockup random targets on the FCR most Mav fall way off target, and yes, the tgt is locked and the cross is flashing in the Mav screen.
-
Should work, but the target needs to be ‘in the keyhole’ for the Mav seeker …. check docs on Mav employment for keyhole parameters.
If the cross in the Mav weapon page (video) is flashing, you won’t get a good track.
(Pretty sure I’ve got that right; all new to me too.

Take a look at this post. It may answer some of your questions.

Thanks, Nice video…thought that this was the case but the boresight process is cumbersome…is this actually done in RL?

It is my understanding it is. I prefer to use the FCR and WPN to Boresight…appears easier.
Info: Not sure if you fired the Maverick in 4.32. It was a lot easier. Just lock the target with the WPN and fire. You were able to ripple as many as you can based on your quickness.

Thanks, I get information overload reading thru all this stuff and yes, I forgot that the cross should NOT flash to be on gimble……the cross was close but the shots were way off line.

Yes, 4.32 is much easier and I never had a problem with any ordinance, thats why the post…4.33 is another learning curve…and I dont like reading this stuff on a CRT.

Roger that.

You can even fire the AGM-65 if the handoff has failed. Just make the WPN page SOI , slew over you TGT and TMS FWD. A valid lock will consist of a fixed pointing cross and BSGT mnemonic adjacent of OSB 20.
The AGM-65 is always live so it can be fired at any time. For it to be able to guide towards your TGT need the above ( BSGT / fixed pointing cross). -

Yes, but it’s usually done on the ground, which is not easy or even possible in Falcon.

Seems to be possible, see here:
-
WoW that’s my video.:D
Maybe violating the caution which says that AGM-65 boresight should not be attempted on the ground if dome covers are still in place.
-
Indeed possible. Only catch is that you need to enable the GROUND JETT Switch to have video feed and action on the missile camera. See Dash-34
The problem with ground calibration is that you need an object at a large distance if you want to avoid parallax errors. If you boresight on something at less than 1 or 2 NM, your boresighting might be slightly off for long distance handoffs.

Hi all, just wanted to add another question to the boresight-tgp handoff discussion without starting a new thread. I was flying a CAS mission and had no problems firing the first few mavs, but then on maybe the 4th or so mav I got a tgp handpff fail message (the same avionics fault you get when originally boresighting) Is this as designed, ie a system fault that real world pilots sometimes deal with that has been modeled in game, or is it an error that I’ve made? I’m totally happy if it’s working as the devs intended, just wanted to correct the way I’m doing things if it’s me who’s made a mistake somewhere.

Typing ‘TGP HADF FAIL’ in the Search box brings up this thread: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23416-Handoff-not-working-and-avionic-fault&highlight=TGP+HADF+FAIL
Have a look at posts #12 and #14.
We need to know the MFL code you got to understand what went wrong. Possibly you tried to handoff outside the limits of the MBC but that’s just a guess.

There is no random failure built into the TGP Handoff functionality, if you had a failure then maybe for some reason the Mav seeker failed locking, you can try to lock the Maverick manaully to see if it can lock the target.
-
It was probably covered in the video but the weapon pointing cross should be steady and not flashing as described on the OP.
The other thing to consider when using Mavericks with the radar as the SPI in lieu of the TGP is that the range shown in the maverick screen is based on the radar range. So if you slew up on the screen then you could be locking a target that is out of range even though it looks in range on the WEZ. This is covered in the dash-34.
Using the FCR or the TGP each have their pros and cons. I tend to be able to shoot them faster without the TGP. But the TGP allows you to find specific targets easier and allows you to keep an eye on the target area while coming off the target.

I can boresight mav fine. My issue is to get the cross stop flashing. I tried the keyhole approach, but even though I put the small cross right on top of the big cross, it still won’t stop flashing. Any tips on how to get a solid cross? Also, is there a height and diving angle restriction on mav’s firing envelope?

Yes. AGM-65 training mission, here, is a good place to start: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\BMS-Training.pdf

The Mav’s realism has been improved to the point that I now plan to avoid using them if at all possible. Just too much preparatory overhead, time constraints, keyhole/pitch/G requirements, etc. I’m beginning to appreciate that even in real life, the Maverick platform is a high-maintenance weapon. I enjoy the realism, but not when real life is that tedious.
