Reinstalling Issue: "The registry entry…"
-
I did the removal and re-installation the hard way:
I looked for the uninstall a program routine for Falcon BMS 4.33 in Control Panel, but did not find it there.
I deleted the installation folder and tried to re-install, but got the message about the registry key problem.
I searched the registry for the Benchmark Sims string, deleted it, and the re-installation went well.
However, if you re-run the original Falcon BMS 4.33 Setup executable, in the setup folder (not installation folder) it will give you the choice to install or remove.
Not standard Windows program removal procedure, but there it is.

Interesting, there should be but on checking I only see 4.32 In “Programs and Features”
-
It was removed to stop people uninstalling the wrong way, cocking up their registry and then posting on the forum, expecting people to bail them out of the mess they’ve created.
Not much you can do if people just manually delete their install
I just wish these people would open a manual first. The BMS Manual has very clear chapters (with screenshots) explaining how to install and how to uninstall, what to do and what not to do, how to set up and configure the sim and how to use it, precisely to spare people this kind of pain.
I guess some just prefer to learn the hard way {sigh}.

Always. Read the first post in this thread:
This message comes up if you e.g. simply deleted the BMS folder instead of using the proper uninstall method (using the normal setup program), or if something went wrong during the uninstallation process.
There was nothing aggressive in my post, disappointment yes, but that’s only natural. We put so much effort into the new manuals precisely to help less committed or experienced Falconeers avoid making mistakes which would cost them time and enjoyment of this great sim.

Ok appearently you just put the registry in the same folder in your installer app.
Question: why is this forum so dead, its like a graveyard in here.

The first post of this same thread tells you how to use the *.reg file (I emphasized the procedure). Unzip the file you downloaded. Right-click on the resulting unzipped file. Select “Merge”.
-
- you can manually cleanup any leftover BMS 4.32 registry entries by using this file (unzip, right-click, select “merge”), works for both 32bit and 64bit OS:

Did you run the registry cleaner already? (Link in first post) If so, perhaps your Falcon 4.0 install is not correct and requires a re-install.

Updated 4.33 u1

Big thx…

Thanks Shadow. Didn’t know the “Cleaner” had been updated.

Until Dunc gets around to updating His primary Post I’m sharing My version.
Least I could do.
