Hosting IVC Server
-
For some reason I cannot connect to myself on IVC when I try and host a server. No one else in my Sqn can connect to me either.
Ports are opened correctly. IP addresses OK. Firewall OK. Whenever I host, people can connect to the game, but not the IVC server.
Why is this?
This was also an issue for 4.32 for me too.

For your ‘loopback’, what if you put you local LAN IP (192.68.1.x or something along those lines) in the IVC Server box instead of 127.0.0.1?
-
Sorted. I was connecting to my client address. Switching to 127.0.0.1 worked. Thanks AB for the prompt
This is BRILLIANT!!!
-
Actually, that was premature. I can now connect to me, but no one else can.

Ensure there’s no pesky software firewall or other block preventing connections to be made (Windows’ one can sneak in blocks some times even when it’s technically switched off). Can people connect to your MP session (not IVC) fine? A backup for forcing connections through unwilling ports and software is always Hamachi or equivalent VPN-based virtual LAN software, I don’t have access to my router (renting a room), so Hamachi saves the day when I want to fly with friends.

port forwarding?
you said firewall ok, just checking.

Thanks Shadow, I went through this with a fine tooth comb. Doesn’t mean I didn’t miss anything though
I followed the port forwarding section at portforward.com for my router and Falcon so I don’t think anything is amiss here. Windows firewall is OK. In fact the same issues present with and without the windows firewall AND router firewall.
People can connect to me in game but not on IVC. I can connect to my IVC server but no one else can. I can also connect to others IVC with no problem so the issues does seem to be just me hosting IVC. Now, I know other people can host the IVC if I put a game up, but I don’t like the idea that my machine cannot do something that it ought to be able to do and there must be a way to sort this out.

7-1
- IVC does not need any ports opened anymore.
That has been the case for clients in the past, but now it seems to be so for servers also.
I would go into Windows Firewall and delete any entries that are there for IVC server and let the OS recreate them by starting the “IVC Server” or do it manual.
Easier to just start IVC Server.

Thanks Shadow.
I redid my ports from scratch last night using the info from the manual. Only ports for the game were opened. No IVC ports were created. This didn’t change anything.
I will delete the entries in win firewall and see if that helps.

Argh! Please read ALL the information about the IVC system. There’s an appendix chapter 14 that has important information.
You MUST still forward the 3 ports for the IVC server or people will not be able to connect with your server from remote if that server is behind a NAT of some sort. Ports for systems that are running the IVC Client do not need to be forwarded…that has never been a requirement it’s not clear where the misunderstanding came from that resulted in the statement in chapter 7 (it will be fixed in the next update for the manual). Text was lost and meaning unfortunately corrupted a bit when the manual text was split over two chapters. In fact the present text no longer includes the port numbers that are the defaults (it used to, and they haven’t changed 9987-9989: inclusive UDP only). Forward the default ports (assuming you didn’t start the server with different explicit port option) and that should help quite a bit.
For clarity: the ports needed for IVC are completely unrelated to ports that are used for multiplayer network game connections.

From my personal experience, check your anti-virus quarantine list. My system put the IVC Server exe in quarantine and never notified me….or if it did, I didn’t see it until I physically went and looked.

Thanks Boxer - very useful to know.
I’ve just opened up these ports again. Lets see what happens now

To confirm open/closed ports, try simpleporttester. Works very well.

Yep - all ports are open!
-
That worked a treat - thanks Boxer
All good now!

Do they have your IP in both the “Connect to an IP Address” box and the “dedicated IVC server” box in the Phonebook entries?

I think everything is done correctly; the IVC server is hosted by the game server and web hosting, I enter his IP for both the game and IVC server, and both our games launch the IVC client and connect.
When he keys his mic I can hear him through the comms just fine, but he can’t hear me at all, neither speech nor the key mic sound. The server console appears to recognize that I’m transmitting, but he doesn’t hear it. Is there something we messed up during setup?
Edit: for those who have the same issue, the solution was unfortunately that the issue simply fixed itself. The next time we tried it, it worked fine. Hopefully the troubleshooting steps others have put will be useful.
