Am I doing something stupid or does the carriers seemingly refuse to turn into the wind? I thought naval aviators didn’t have to contend with a crosswind? It’s bad enough without having an LSO or an IFLOLS I can make out from 3/4 mile 🙂

Might I suggest you have a look at the Training Manual. It’s all explained in Part 4 Naval Operations.

        Mission 22: Carrier Landing.

Sadly, I don’t see the carrier making the turns while in campaign or in a TE. Do they make the turns after I requests vectors/auto approach? And if so, how long should I give them?

Edit; I should clarify I’m talking about MP specifically, but it seems that unless the flight plan takes the winds into account, it doesn’t seem to happen…

Ah, understood. It doesn’t turn into the wind in multiplayer at the moment. This is by design to ensure stability when people are connecting.

Understood, so how to we set the initial carrier heading to keep with the wind? Is this something we can do with careful steer point placement or do we just accept our fate?

accept your fate, OR set up the wind as it should

sorry, we tried hard to make it moveable in MP , but the lag in position of the carrier that is hosted on the host makes things look awfull

What do you mean set up the wind as it should? You mean adjust the weather in WC to accommodate the CVBG?
I bet plenty of carrier captains would love that option in real life…
“Met Office, please set wind direction to match current heading”

Don’t worry about it; it’s not a major problem, as long as one of the squadron makes it aboard, they can talk the rest of us in 🙂
