F-16 (BMS) Flight model Stress Test, Wheel brakes to 15,000ft in 45secs
-
Haole’s right…as usual
Tried this setup today 5 times and met or beat it every time.
You have to remember the Viper climbs at 50,000 + feet a minute That’s 830 - 1,000 a second, depending on load out, temp, altitude, lada lada lada.
My setup
Fuel 1,200 lb
Clean Jet
Start on the runway (no need to waste fuel taxing)
Brakes on
Full ThrottleThe moment the aircraft moves I release brakes and start the clock at the same time.
Pull up about 3 degrees up at 130 kts and immediately raise the gear while pushing the nose back level (10 - 15 feet off the runway) & Hold the nose level (it wants to climb)… now I’m accelerating like a “Bat …err Viper out Hell”.
Accelerate to 28 Seconds of time, then start a smooth pull (4 G’s max) to 70 degrees nose high.
At 15,000 feet, hit stop on the stop watch. Typically its between 41 - 44 seconds
Easy cheesy!!
I have Fraps, if I can figre out how to set it up and use it, I’ll post a video.
Stang out
Wow, nice attempt and congratz! :headb:
So best time for your climb itself is 13s. Well done, would like to see a video/acmi of that. i’m going to try it myself tonight with your flight profile.
P.S. is your initial 28 seconds from wheel brake release?
-
It is about 28 Seconds from Wheel brake release to pull.
NOTE… I’m holding the brakes…Go Full Burner (that’s a no no)… The Nose wheel oleo lowers and as soon as the jet moves, I release the brakes and start the time.
I am uploading a video to YouTube now. Its a Monster at 800 Megs because its 1080 P widescreen and I haven’t had time to read the Movie Maker manual and compress it. My honey do list is killing me today
My timing on it is… Wheel brakes release to 15,000 is about 45.40 seconds. Give or take a few milliseconds.
I made this attempt real quick, so its a bit sloppy, especially the landing. I did stop on the runway with almost 450 lbs remaining though. Started with about 1,200 lbs.
and YES… I know I was too hot on the landing final leg, and floated to touchdown…BUT every landing you can walk away from…is a good landing
Just saying:D

Here’s the video
Make sure to select the high quality so you can read the HUD.
Better Yet… Watch it on YouTube so you can see the Full screen High Res Version! Link here
Couple of corrections, I landed with about 200lbs of Fuel.
Over shot my climb into the 75 + degree area.
Finally…horrible pattern work. I hope Haole doesn’t see this Proper pattern altitude is 1,500’, with the Flight Path Marker right at the top of the staple on final and to touchdown… way to fast and flat on this approach.

Another question for you Guys
What’s the Love/Hate Relationship between TrackIR and FRAPS???
When running Track IR… as soon as I hit F9 to start the recording…it kills the TrackIR???
I am using the Dunc_DX Key file for my controller “Load Key file” setup (Thrustmaster Cougar with a Real-Sim Pressure Sensitive Mod on the Flight Stick & Saitek Rudders)
Flying the Viper without TrackIR is like guessing Lotto numbers
-
Don’t use the same keyboard key for pausing TrackIR and Fraps record toggle. I don’t use most of the TIR hotkeys (only recenter) so I disable them in my TIR profile. My FRAPs key is F12 while my TIR recenter key is Scroll Lock as an example.

Location of that video is Turkish Aerospace Industires-Akıncı/Turkey but i can’t say anything about date, maybe we should look upload date of video. Btw Test pilots of TAI are usually flying for test flight at sunrise, because air density become much more at sunrise.

Little update
After talking with Haole he tweaked my procedure a little.
Clean Jet with 1,250 lbs of Fuel.
Holding the Brake on, Full Burner
As soon as the Jet moves, release the brakes and start the clock simultaneously
Rotate at 130 knots to 5 degrees nose high
Accelerate to 450 knots
Smooth 3 G pull up at 450 knots
Climb to 15,000Here’s my updated times:
41.40
43.07
44.01Seems like this is definitely possible with the right setup and procedure…Just like Haole said!
:headb:

When I saw Viper West a few years back they did their take off like this. Ground stop to 15000 ft in a min or so… Wish I had video of it.
