Foxy Removal.
-
Hi,
I am hoping someone can help. I have searched but cannot find anything with relevance to my question. I have been using 4.32 with Dunks profile, no problem everything fine. But as I understand I can just go to the keyfile page and assign my Cougar buttons from there. So why do I need Foxy?
I would like to re flash my Cougar and remove Foxy and just assign my Cougar buttons directly from BMS, I assume the Cougar buttons come up as DX key presses as It is JOYID 1?, but I cannot see how to uninstall Foxy on its own. The Foxy uninstaller wants to remove everything including CCP which I want to keep.
Would a better way be to blank the Tmm and Tmj files and then flash the Cougar?
Any advice would be grateful, thank you :).

The quick and easy way is start the CCP and make sure the big button is red, not green. This way, all your buttons become DX buttons and no pre-programmed keypresses are passed. There’s no need to uninstall Foxy (although why anyone would install it in the first place is beyond me!)

Thank’s Malc, good idea.
I thought I would need to keep the CCP for calibration and axis shaping though.

You can certainly use the CCP and its functions without employing Foxy. The Axis Analyzer is a .exe applet directly callable from the Cougar installation folder. You can send the Analyzer to the desktop so it has its own separate icon.

This is my approach. Im suspecting I may need to use foxy at some point in the future, to rotate the stick axes virtually. For now though, unprogrammed DX inputs work just fine.

CCP does indeed need to be installed but can be installed stand-alone.

Would that be how @habu_ described?
There is a file called “2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe” for 64-bit OS which includes all software elements required, including Cougar Control Panel (CCP). If you had a completely clean Windows install, running this file will install all the software you need. It also installs Foxy which isn’t a problem in itself, I simply choose not to use it. Here is my Start Menu entry after I run this file:
CCP can be started from the menu, or a desktop shortcut created as desired.
Foxy being on your system is not a bad thing. As Bluey suggests above, there may be a time when it has it’s uses, but in all the time I’ve used TM gear (started with an FCS/WCS2/RCS combo - IIRC the Foxy software came with the F-16 FLCS and TQS), I’ve chose not to use Foxy as I found it cumbersome and just not to my taste (Sorry James!)
Chances are, you’ve already got the CCP and its elements installed? If so, you have everything you need already.
