Testing FPS
-
What is a good way to test FPS? I’m trying to decide whether to go full MFDE vs my current MFDE + CDE setup and I need a nice mission to test FPS. Hopefully, one that I can just fly through straight-and-level and get min-max-avg FPS.
Thanks!

Change in …\User\Config\falcon bms.cfg:
set g_nReagTimer 2 // AB A/C despawn-> delay before disappearing (in min)
set g_nDeagTimer 2 // AB A/C spawn-> lead time before taxiing (in min)
And take out the a/c’s on the ground with the gun at ~400ft… -
Not sure I understand….

The maverick TE with poor weather is a great test IMO – we all have it installed, can compare with/without TGP+WPN pages and i find that it is pretty taxing on the system once you’re in the valleys.
I think a thread that had a form list of computer specs (cpu, gpu, ram, OS, x64/x86, screen resolution… etc.) and falcon settings (shaders on/off, multisampling, ansiotropic filtering, anti aliasing, windowed mode, display extraction… etc.) for people to fill out and then note the FPS you get to a particular area would be great.
It would then be possible to generate some sort of scatter graph to see what type of performance people are getting with different settings. Such a thread would only succeed with responsible use by the community but would still probably need heavy moderation – so not sure if it’s possible/practical or not. Would be great though…

I’ve made a TE with a/c’s on the ground while an OCA strike and took out these ones with the gun. And as I flew through the explosions my FPS were nearly 1 (from ~35 FPS).
(While flying through the explosions (alt ~400ft) I pulled the nose up and the next I could see, was that I was at alt ~3000ft).Or take this maverick TE with TPG and WEAPON page on the MFD’s…
But with my computer (see specs below) I’m always over 20 FPS with TGP and WEAPON page. -

See, while this is some good information, it’s not complete. Falcon settings? Any shaders off? Display extraction?

Settings should be irrelevant in this case…IMO. Relevant should only be the relation…
These low pass explosions are the greatest FPS drop I ever could notice.
Even not from a weapon view, while e.g. a bomb is exploding. -
Settings are irrelevant? Mmmmkay…
No one has your TE but you, so there’s no comparison to be made. Plus, what if someone strafes 3 jets, while another guy is able to strafe 5 jets? No consistency therefore not a good test.

You always can count with the relation…
What do I have before, and what after, and that is the difference of interest. Equal if you have all ON, or MAX, or all OFF or MIN. The relation is always the same…to ‘before and after’. -
Ok, i see what you’re saying. You’re comparing with yourself while i’m suggesting that we compare as a group.
EDIT… which i guess puts me off-topic.

For this Mav TE (#13), how do you suggest I go about it?
Currently just in the jet, straight-and-level, throttle MIL, TGP on and viewing waypoint 4.

Okay, I’ve done a few runs with my setup comparing both windowed (and using MFDE+CDE) and full-screen (ust MFDE).
Can anyone tell me what’s the best way to continue testing and tweaking settings?
At the moment, I’m using Excel to keep track of my numbers, FRAPS for framerates, MSI Afterburner to monitor CPU/GPU load, and that’s it really. I have a 7970 GHz edition with no OC and an old i5 750 running at stock 2.66GHz clocks. I’m guessing OC’ing the CPU will give me the best in terms of improvement? -
