Some pre-flight issues
-
I’ve run across some issues that make a Ramp Start irritating or more difficult:
1. When first entering the aircraft, the external sounds are rather loud. One would think the pilot would be wearing a helmet, which would provide a fair amount of hearing protection.
2. When performing step 10. SEC check, the aircraft moves forward despite the chocks being in place and brakes applied as the engine RPM approaches 80%.
3. When trying to perform step 18. DBU CHECK (AFTER FLCS BIT completed) the DBU switch does not ‘move’ to the BACKUP mode when I try to activate it via my mouse. All other ‘activities’ involving the mouse appear to work properly.
Any ideas, especially regarding situation #3?

1 - you should check the sound setup. I don’t have external sound as soon the canopy is close.
2 - not normal, I don’t have this kind of issue here. But of course, even with the chocks, you need to apply break at the same times.
3 - Are you flying with a F-16 that have the digital FLCS or the analog one? Analog FLCS don’t have DBU. -

3 - Are you flying with a F-16 that have the digital FLCS or the analog one? Analog FLCS don’t have DBU.1 - External sounds are really loud with the canopy open, and, in my case so far (training sortie #1) I’m the only one there.
2 - Yep, I have wheel brakes applied.
3 - That’s a possibility, since I’m practicing Ramp Start with the training version of the -16. Hmmm . . . perhaps I should cobble up a TE with a more ‘modern’ -16. -
1- this is normal with the open canopy. You should close it ;).
2- maybe your wheel brakes is inverted. I don’t move at all during the SEC check and the EPU gen test.
3- check with digital FLCS F-16, any block 40 to 52. -
2. When performing step 10. SEC check, the aircraft moves forward despite the chocks being in place and brakes applied as the engine RPM approaches 80%.
Just to make sure ;), parking brake engaged will not do the trick, manual braking is necessary.

If you want the external sounds to represent a pilot with a helmet on, turn down the external sounds slider (but not as much as helmet+canopy down). Right now it represents the sound as it is openly in the world.
Wheel brakes should easily prevent moving during a SEC check. Chocks should work even better. I would suggest something wrong with your braking but the chocks alone should be plenty.

Thanks Frederf. I made the adjustment you suggested, and am now satisfied.
