Maverick Flame out.

Hello Forum.

I’m practicing the maverick CAVOK mission at the moment, not with the TFR as yet.
The boresighting is going well and I can lock up and ripple the Shilkas.

The problem is at the bridge, I engage the AGM65Gs, go through the drill and lock up the required span (sometimes with and sometimes without AREA) and fire.
I hear “Rifle” but no hit on the target.
Watching the missile on the weapon camera, I discovered that it has a flame out after about 5 seconds of flight and just falls to earth.

The weapon has been powered “on” on the SMS page.

I’ve read and re red the manual but I must be missing some step.

You’re firing out of range…the weapon does have a short burn time, and then becomes a glider. Press in closer, and/or higher.

I don’t think it’s range, the indexer shows that I’m well within range.
Even so, I’ve no doubt that the missile has more than a 5 second burn time……?

I just spotted another thread dated Nov 23rd from Eseem under the title “AGM 65 minimum dive angle”.
He identified a TMS issue. I’ll try it on my next sortee.

…I love MAVs…if you have to shoot more than one, yer doing it wrong!
