      Hello guys,

Is it possible to increase the terrain view distance in the .cfg file? I looked but did not identified the proper setting for view distance. Seems the startup command of -g5 through -g7 doesn’t do anything any longer either.

To clarify; at altitude, I only see about a 20-mile view radius where I can see the ground, whereby after that 20-mile distance there begins a dense grey fog that extends from the ground and goes up several thousand feet in altitude. It’s very distracting and seems I’m mostly staring at a gray band most of the time. Seems it’s not any of my settings (everything is maxed) and I looked through the screenshot page and everybody has the same fog band. It’s like flying in a bubble of sorts.

If any way to increase the view distance and decrease the fog effect? My rig can definitely handle much more view distance.

      Thanks and good day!

I think you might have to review your in game settings setting them all back to default.

Have you been playing with the “weather” you know the slider that sets “weather you can see very far” 😉

And you haven’t given any relevant software hardware info either.

Nothing to do with my system, got a new AMD 8-core, 2gb GTX 750 OC, 16GB ram yadda yadda. BMS doesn’t even make my system break a sweat everything maxed out - silky smooth, no crashes etc etc. I know my way around the sim as well, probably better than most, since I’ve been flying it since 1998 and every single released iteration since.

I’ve looked through the pics posted on the other thread and everybody has this fog…no pics without the fog band. I know you have it too.

I did try messing with the weather, and have reduced everything related, and still the thick fog band. I’ll take another look.

Thanks for the heads up in any event! Will see what happens when I mess with the weather settings again.

A quick search for ‘visibility settings’ suggested this thread (amongst others): https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23698-Visibility-settings-in-433&highlight=visibility+settings

Mav-jp is on the case 😉

Mavs comment was that he would make visibility above the layer for WX other than sunny, be equal to sunny visibility. OP is I think asking for sunny visibility to be further away than the perceived 20 miles.

Correct. During a clear, sunny day with little to no clouds there is always this very noticable fog layer 20-30 miles out - even posted screen shots I’ve seen on this site show this - to where I can’t see much beyond this layer. Whereby in DCS I can almost see clear across the map during sunny day with no clouds at altitude and previous version of BMS.

I’m actually surprised not many others have noticed this or commented on it, as it’s a bit of an issue imo. I’d post a screen of it, but it’s already in screen shots where you can see the horizon.

                  Anyhow, was just wondering.

                  Thanks and good day,

Maybe its an attempt to model british weather? Britain: home of the ILS!

Haha! Is it always that bad across the pond - them foggy marshes and all I see in the movies…? London fog…etc…

In any event, I’ll just have to set my weather to coincide with the ever present fog conditions.

Don’t get me wrong guys, BMS ROCKS!! Regardless if I can see or not!!

Id like to be able to set and then get say 60 or 70 miles visibility at high altitude.
