Taking out aircrafts on the ground

What about bombing taxiways? I know that if we taxi ourselves into a crater we blow up, but what about AI?
-
AI is immune to craters.

Perhaps, but if you reduce the operation level of an airfield to 0, no planes will take off from it. Though I can’t see the point in bombing taxiways, when it’s far simpler to turn up at night, line up on the runway and ripple a full load of BLU-107s whilst pumping flares and chaff with burners lit. One pass, haul ass.

the reason for not doing that is if they have even rudimentary SHORADs present you’ll die
same principal can be applied with JDAM toss though. just from farther away.

Once i attacked the last remaining runway at Wonsan, loaded with two GBU’s. During the first run i saw two MiG-23 rolling to the runway thru the targeting pod. It was very tempting to move the laser to the Floggers and blow them up but i had to finish my task. Hitting the first runway section let the MiG’s turning around and rolling back to the parking slots. To bad i had already dropped all of my A2G ordnance …

that’s what STRF is for my friend.
because 1940 never really ended.

Low level strafing is a very bad idea when hostile ground units are in the area. You’ll end up as a smoking hole in the ground …
-
right in the middle of their runway. just as planned.

I’ve never actually been hit by that. AAA and small arms fire a few times, but countermeasures, night and a single high speed pass works well for me. Either way, the main point was “hit the runway, not the taxiways”. No problem doing that with smart bombs from +15,000 feet.

I agree, BLU-107s in a single pass works well for me, results in more damage to several the runway sections than a couple of GBUs/JDAMs. However, I never send the AI wingman in for that, they will attack with guided bombs from high altitude.

Same. During OCA’s (I flew one last night) high speed pass, drop your eggs and burn. Burn for altitude! I will hit the runway @530kts/8000ft. A fast pass, then burn up to 15,000ft in approx. 2 seconds. The SHORADs have shot at me, but could never catch me. I’m going too fast (650+kts.) and gaining altitude/distance. Besides, when I reach the airfield, I use HARMS to take out any radars (airfield or otherwise) on my way in. After that, the area is usually clear for a low level pass. Just the way I do it in bms. If it were RL, I would stay as high as possible with stand off weapons. But, this is bms.
As for taxi ways, you do know that Mig’s and Su’s can take off from taxi ways. At least I have seen this in RL on a few vids I have come across. If there just AA config jets, they can stand on the brakes and take off very quickly. Even from taxi ways.
Just my 2 cents……

Yep, never use the AI wingmen for BLU-107 drops. They’ll just cross the runway from the side and drop everything is a super quick ripple across a small section. Most of the time it’d hardly have done much difference if it hadn’t been for the way BMS handles runway damage.
I don’t know if hostile jets can take off from taxiways, but surely they can’t land on them? Either way, most airfields seem to be small, with only one or two runways and very short taxiways.
