4.33 did a great job in naval ops. That rekindled a lot of interest in F/A-18s. However, since hornets have a lot of nuances to itself, I just want to start a thread that can incorporate a lot of the undocumented things about hornet, so that new pilots would come to this one place for information. I’ll periodically update the first post with new info. If anyone has any inputs please let me know. Could we make this sticky? Some of the things that I have learned so far:

      1. How to make RPM counter work?
Turn off Smart Scaling in the ingame setup.

      2. How does Landing AOA bracket work?
It works the opposite to what F16 has. Also, the bracket moves relative to FPM instead of a static one like in an F16

Just to bump my thread with some new questions:
        1. How to access the Data link page on DED? I went to list-misc-“E”. But it kicks me out to the front page
        2. I guess carriers have no ILS? How do you land in foggy weather?
        3. How to make 0 distance turns on carrier deck? Basically the aircraft does 180 about face turns. I saw some people do that in utube.

          Also, one more question.

How to change FOV in F18? It seems FOV settings in Config only applies F16, but not to other aircraft.

            1. You probably need to apply DL power, UFC DL button.
            2. Nope, it’s due to how the “runways” are coded you’d be landing on the catapults.
            3. Differential braking with NWS off but the F-18 has a better nosewheel on radius than the 16 anyway. R/L 18 has NWS LO and HI sensitivity but in BMS it’s only HI.

FOV has three settings, minimum?, default, and maximum and they are global.

For FOV, really? My F-18 cockpit feels really close. Lucky, the MFDs are so high, that I don’t really need to look down to see them. Btw, what is that fish like (or infinity like symbol) at bottom left corner of the HUD? I saw that on F15e as well. But don’t know what that is.

Would it be alpha? (current AoA)

Damn, it looks really like a fish? lol. Btw, the way to turn on Data link is just to click DL button on UPC right?

Isn’t that in a ramp start video? 😛

My RPM counter , TGT gauge and nozzle positions don’t work on night time missions… doesn’t matter if smart scaling enabled or not, but they work in daylight ops… Also I’m not getting SA-11 thru SA-17’s to show on the HARM HAS WPN page in Israeli campaign,… can’t lock them up as they never show up , though they’r on my RWR and fire at me ! DO we need updated HARM missiles?

I was under the impression that the RWR contacts can be displayed on the HUD, however I have not figured out how yet.

Also the HUD projection seems too large for the HUD glass, I have to adjust my head to see the elements on either side.

I didn’t do anything special to get RWR on HUD. SA-17 doesn’t appear HARM compatible for me as well (I assume same story SA-11). It’s either an oversight or a feature.

How to change the flaps from AUTO to FULL /HALF ?

The manual says CTRL + F10 but that doesn’t seem to do anything. I’ve double checked to see if its bound in the keybinds and it still is but nothing.

Have you tried to left click the flap control in cockpit?

I have, I think the F-18 fully auto and there’s no pilot choice.

Why do you want to mess around with flap settings. I always leave it on auto and there was no issue.

I’m not having issues it just seems strange the AI have full flaps, whereas I can only use AUTO which seems to use half or none.
