Confused with SPI management
-
Information overload with 4.33….Carrying GBU 10’s, suppose there was a target of opportunity well before you reached your mission steer point target. How do you go about locking up that target of opportunity and hitting it using the TGP. I read over the SPI management pages and get confused. Do you have to set it up as a mark point target first or what?

Hi,
You have ~3 options I think:
1. Slew the SPI to your TOO, drop and lase your bomb(s), CZ after that and you can go a head with your mission.2. Change your FCR/TGP to Snowplow mode, TMS-FWD to ground stabilize the SP cursor, slew to your TOO, drop the bomb(s), deactivate SP and your are back on track with your original STPT.
3. Markpoint your TOO, choose the MKPT that you just designated, drop your bomb(s), CZ, choose back your original STPT and move a head.
You need to think of the SPI as a MAIN cursor that simply follows your sensors, whichever you choose to be the “leading” one, is what the SPI will follow. If you move your FCR to track then the SPI will be on the FCR (and slewing the TGP will have no effect on the SPI position), if you move your TGP to track then the SPI will be with the TGP (and slewing the FCR will have no effect on the SPI position), if none is tracking then the SPI is with whichever is the SOI and the other will follow, same goes if you move SOI to the HUD and if FCR/TGP aren’t tracking, you can slew the HUD TD-Box and the FCR/TGP will follow.
The only thing you need to remember is that slewing the SPI will cause ALL STPT positions to be slewed by the same delta(s) amounts, and for zeroing back, use CZ - That will erase the deltas and move back the SPI to the current STPT position.

Thanks I Hawk…think I have it now…I didnt know the full effect of CZ and that snow plow is an on/off mode. I will try your suggestions.
