          Windows 8 tends to look at a new item plugged into a port and assigns each switch as a seperate entity, that causes the flash, it does it when I try plugging in my Saitek X-52 HOTAS, once for each function the stick has through direct x or drivers and it takes a while to sort itself out. Plug it into a different slot and it will do the same again, but in the end it seems stable enough.

          Another case of Old hardware meets new software.

              That’s not what’s happening here. It’s a USB power management issue.

                The problem occurs since windows 8 (windows7 does not have a problem)

                It can be a real problem to do it manually. If you have a lot of usb devices and sometimes change the orde.
                The Powershell script searches every \enum\USB subkey for a variable Enablepowermanagement=1. Then it changes value to 0
                only 1 remark, you have to take ownership of the USB rootkey and put full control on the root and subkeys.

                $registryPath = “HKLM:SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB***”
                $powmgt = “EnhancedPowerManagementEnabled”

                $result = Get-ItemProperty -Path $registryPath -Name $powmgt
                foreach ($result1 in $result) {
                Set-ItemProperty -path $result1.PSPath -name $powmgt -Value 0
                }

                  I had the same problem and the solution was simple. I downloaded the latest drivers at TM and updated the stock drivers. Tadaaaaa, problem solved. Worked for me……
