So one thing really bothers me when playing BMS

Its really not a huge deal but I feel that I should mention it.

When you shoot down an aircraft, too often and too soon they blow up in a huge fireball. When I say blow up, there is NOTHING left that falls to the ground. I think this is a great exaggeration and it kinda takes away from the feeling of the sim.

I hate to mention DCS, but they do it right. Aircraft should catch fire and plummet to the ground, not start plummeting and then blow up in the sky.

It happens occasionally in BMS and when it does happen, it looks GREAT. I just wish it happened most of the time.

Maybe once the Halon combat schedule is implemented, they will make explosions less likely 😛

A lot of this will depend where the warhead detonates in relation to the aircraft. I’ve seen it up the tailpipe and completely gone, I’ve seen wings blown off and it spirals to the ground in a ball of flames, etc…

Most RL splashes of a fighter jet is not in a ball of flame. It is when the warhead detonates (proximity) and the jet gets peppered with shrapnel. Smoke and some fire are created as the jet goes down. Pilot ejects and the jet spirals down to the ground. There are few instances when a jet explodes in mid air. But it usually starts out with smoke and some fire that ignites the fuel, then maybe weapons (but not generally). It is when the jet hits the ground and you can get a fireball (weapons/fuel ignite, ect.)

Wait, BMS isn’t RL??? No I meant in BMS. I’ve seen multiple ‘death events’ when you splash a bogey and it all appears to be how or where the missile impacts or exploads in relation to the bogey.

Yes you are correct, probably it’s wrong as it is now… hopefully in the future it will become better.
