CRS (course ) during navigation .

Im new to BMS and i have a question regarding the HSI course during navigation and before anyone say RTFM or say use the search i did both and i had no luck or maybe im missing something and believe me i took a whole day thinking should i ask the question or someone would jump and say something but i didn’t find an answer so if you have nothing to say so please refrain from saying RTFM. the answer to my question though should be very easy and simple to you guys . im playing the Navigation mission in the TE and i know how to navigate and use the HSI and HSD during navigation from one way point to the other and i can keep the plane on track using the HSD view but when i wanted to use the HSI to keep on track during my way points navigation the CRS is always reading (000 ) it never change the course automatically to follow the route planned . i know i can change it manually using the knob but i dont know what is the radial for every leg of the rout im flying .is that how it is or im doing something wrong ? i read the Navigation chart tutorial in the doc folder and i have an idea about how the HSI works the reason im asking is because i only used to fly the F15 in DCS and as some of you might know its very simple compared to BMS level of sim but in the F15 during Navigation the CRS was changing automatically for every steer point so i might had the wrong idea that it change automatically in RL .

Yes I think you are misunderstanding the HSI operation slightly. Whist the HSI is set to NAV it will automatically point the nearest Steerpoint by means of the small white arrow however the course will NOT change automatically, EVER. The course you have to adjust yourself using the CRS knob. It is used to line up on runways for ILS/TACAN approaches, for navigation if using TACAN stations/VORTAC. Basically you dial in the course of whatever radial you are trying to follow. We don’t use radials for navigating to preplanned steerpoints, only to airbases, TACAN’s, VORTAC’s as mentioned above. You can also use the course knob and HSI for lining up on tank columns for dropping CBU’s in ripples but that’s another story.
I think you do need to find and read a good guide the HSI so you understand how it works properly. There might even be some good tutorials on youtube if someone can provide some links???

I’ll just add here, the course “knob” is located at the bottom left corner of the HSI and used by hovering your mouse over it, then left click, right click, or center mouse wheel.
Not sure, but I think there’s a couple models that the knob is not viable, but using the mouse over that spot still operates the course pointer -

Thank you very much i just wanted to make sure that im following the training mission correctly .im currently reading the the Chart tutorial that comes with BMS install in the doc folder and it has plenty of information i already know how to use the CRS to intercept radial when im approaching the airfield its just i got it twisted because of flying the F15 in DCS .

While TACAN/VORTAC navigation is possible, it’s not practical, especially in a space-limited cockpit. In my RW flying days, it required a big chart, a protractor with mileage ‘ruler’ that matched the chart’s scale, and lots of room. Of course, it requires two hands, and without another pilot or an autopilot, well . . .

…hmmnnn…I don’t recall navigating station to station being that difficult…other than that the stations back east were far weaker than the ones out west in the mountain regions (where I learned to fly). So you ended up on the charts anyway.

What worked in 4.32 and should in 4.33 is when you look at the briefing screen it will show you the heading from one steerpoint to the next. If you are using Weapon Delivery Planner (thats not part of BMS software, you have to download it elsewhere) you can find it on there too.
Once within a few miles of your steerpoint you can change the course knob to show the correct arrow responces, or if you’re using the autopilot wait until after - you might loose your lunch otherwise

But I did just learn that I can rotate them faster by using the mouse wheel. Much nicer than clicking 100 times haha

Even better is the fact you can combine the mouse wheel with which side of the knob you are on. Left side each click adjusts by 5 right side each click adjusts by 1.

How do you get the heading of a tank column? I mean, is there any way to get the CRS between 2 stps without overflying one of them?
I get an aproximate crs with TGP and N/W function to get the North direction in the image.
