Basic Ramp Start Question (BMS 4.33)

When I go through the Ramp Start procedure as described in the BMS training document…
When I run the BIT test on the RWR/Threat panel I get a
“FSRS Bad” warning
What does it mean…and what have I done wrong to generate this error?

I’ve seen people report that it will say FSRS OK if you do the bit after you put your INS/EGI to NAV.

apologies if im stealing the thread I think its relative , but how come I cannot communicate with the tower for taxi ? is there something I have to setup initially ? isnt the “Tacan” automatically setup for you ?

I’ll try a test once the INS is aligned and I’m in NAV see if that solves it!

You need to make sure that you have set the correct UHF Tower frequency for whichever airbase you are wanting to talk to (for takeoff or landing). Search the BMS 433 Manuals for ‘Tower’ and in particular read ‘BMS-Training’ document p10 section 4 and read about the DTC and related topics in the manuals.
Airbase frequencies are listed in the “Airport Approach & Navigation Charts” sub-folder in the BMS 433 Folders
TACAN is a navigation aid not Tower Communication and also has to be set up separately

I can help with that! As I suffered exactly the same problem! In the mission briefing page go to DTC and set UHF to Tower (for Kunsan in the tutorial its 293.30)
I’m fairly certain in the initial training TEs that VHF isn’t important as you’re in a one-ship…
Before setting Com1 and com2 in the DED/ICP… (they’re UHF and VHF respectively) load the DTC (Data transfer cartridge) through the MFD (select DTE and then Load from the appropriate OBS buttons) this will import your frequencies from the DTC…
The, once you switch CNI from Backup to UFC it’ll use those frequencies and you should start to hear tower comms

One is Kunsan’s tower freq and the other is useful to scream obscenities and not get in trouble. Dee-Jay accidentally specified 293.30 which isn’t the frequency for Kunsan.

But the sentiment is a valuable one. Preset frequency channels are a luxury like preset numbers for your car FM radio. Imagine that you were in a car and the driver couldn’t tune 98.1 MHz to listen to music. He tries preset 1, preset 2, preset 3… can’t find it. Why doesn’t it work? You’d think he was an idiot right? Dude, just tune 98.1 MHz. Worry about your presets later.

If you want to use presets, presumably you would need to set a channel (e.g. 15) to the tower you take off from and another (16?) for the tower you’re landing at? Just want to make sure I understand it all!

Also, when flying the A10-C, the data cartridge always seems to be loaded? I tried to see a way of loading it manually but it didn’t work the same way i.e. there didn’t seem to be a DTE option. And it always shows “Data Catridge Loaded”

One more thing, I can’t see a way (in the A10-C) of entering the frequency of the tower. Does the A10-C, in the sim, only use presets?

Can you tell I’m new to this?

It works the same way. The confusing thing is the BMS A-10 avionics are the Falcon avionics with the buttons spread around to give the impression of an A-10. The trick is to know the F-16 so well you can still figure out the avionics when they are chewed up and barfed into another cockpit.

Default option I think any plane you join after the ramp start phase gets the DTC loaded for you on join. For ramp starts DTC automatic loading is suppressed. If there’s animated texture that says something I wouldn’t believe it. It could mean anything or nothing. Check some custom DTC value like a weird bingo number to confirm.

BMS A-10 can enter frequencies just like the F-16. ICP COM1 X-X-X-X-X ENT. The exercise for the student is to figure out where in the cockpit SimICPCOM1, SimICP1, etc. are physically.
