      –---- US Navy “Jolly Rogers” VFA-103 (Year 2007) Skin (for default BMS 4.33 F-18 D Hornet) -------

I made second F-18D “Jolly Rogers” (Year 2007) skin. 😄

      (First skin link: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?25584-quot- )

This skin was made for BMS 4.33 default F-18D model.

      Installation;

      1. Make a back-up of the original files in “KoreaObj” folder: 1974.dds, 3705.dds and 3706.dds

      2. Copy new dds files to the “X:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Data\Terrdata\objects\KoreaObj” folder. (high resolution 4096 pix or low resolution 2048 pix)

      Have a nice flight !

      buraktunahan

      Regards

Man you are talented!! Beautiful skin and fits the D bug very nicely. Also your attention to detail and scale is just perfect. Weathering looking very nice as well, subtle and authentic. Epic skinnage! 😄

You plan to color the antennas and sensors on the vertical stabs or did they fly them without color on these specific birds in 2007? When I did the skin for the D bug they were right on the stab model but I guess they been moved.

        Successors, Baby, successors.

        Thanks for your work!

          Spechless…

"I did find myself […] looking into the face of those SA-8s and the two Rolands. My impression of why I survived is that here I am, with the radar cross-section the size of Mount Rushmore, and here are these Iraqi SAM missile operators going, 'Cease fire, Cease fire, don´t shoot! Here´s two dumb Mike Foxes at 20,000 feet and 200 knots-you know, must be Iraqi, hold fire, hold fire!' I think that´s the only thing that saved us"

Just AWESOME dear Burak!!! 🙇 :drink:
            Thank you very much!
May i ask for a very small update on this beauty in order to be more real?
Make the external fuel tank to has the main body camo, like in the real tactical camo.
            Check the below photos:

I want to believe that this will be really very easy update, right?
Thanks again for your time and efforts!
            Nikos.

Other than the lack of “license plates” implementation I love your work! Fantastic skin, Burak!

Yes, i know that the specific camo for external fuel tank exists.
BUT it is not for the specific camo version of 2007!
Typically it is for the newer one here:

Of course you can see things mixed up like in your real photo. But the typical tactical one camo in year 2007 was the same camo as in the main body.
                  Check it out…
And since i think it is easy for the friend Burak, maybe he can provide also the other one external fuel tank… 😛 Maybe…!

…you guys do know that only one jet in a Navy squadron is allowed to carry CAG paint…right? And that a a second one is allowed to carry a subdued version…all the rest are painted spec.

Wish we had a way to select side number for skins as a user input…that would be way nice…

I think what you’re referring to is commonly called ‘license plates’, like an alpha channel that’s put on the relevant section of a jet (stab, front fuselage, wings) with multiple MODEX numbers on a texture which are assigned to that area according to user selection. So for a VF-/VFA- squad you might have sth like MODEX 100, 101, 103, 105 or for secondary squads 201, 203, 207 etc

I’m not sure whether that’s implemented or possible but there was a thread about that topic some time ago.

The alternative of having entire sets of different skins for different MODEX numbers is what I used for this pic:

As you see the foreground jet is 100 and background 110, 100 was in skin slot 1 and 110 in slot 2. Given that we have two slots per jet that solution is not optimal.

Awesome work dude, but I would have preferred this skin on the F/A-18F Super Hornet 😛

I’m just using that to showcase the MODEX/License Plate issue. I’m sure Bura has some more stuff in the works 😄

Haha…yeah, missed that. I only just now noticed that it’s acutally the D and not the H. Was the D actually used by the NAVY or did they only start using the F once the Tomcat was retired?

It seems to me that the F happened after the withdrawal of Tomcat

The legacy D model use (but certainly not limited to) was mostly as a trainer (RAG/FRS squadrons) by the USN, and (still is) used tactically by the USMC. The former VF (Tomcat) squadrons have transitioned to both the “E” and “F” model Super Hornets.
