      Hello guys ,
Im trying to practice using the IAM bomb ( AGM 154 ) and GBU-39 , for the life of me i did every thing in the book and i followed the youtube tutorial exactly . When i press the Pickle for 2 sec it wont release the weapon . my altitude is " 20000 " is that a low altitude for the Bomb to release . Also the manual says that :

      : indicates a good status

      😧 degraded weapon
      H: Hung weapon

BUT i get the letter M in the station # location . i looked in the manual for M but i cant find what it means.

      Any help would be appreciated

Weapon is powered on? Does the status in the sms say RDY? (Roughly bottom middle)

20 thousand should be fine altitude wise. What is your speed? And are you in DLZ?

Not sure would have to check. But try going faster (at least .85 Mach) and see if that helps?

DO you mean that the M is for Malfunction ? But the 34 manual only mention the letters i mentioned above . it didnt say anything about the letter " m " .

It shouldn’t be. Then the status should be MAL instead of RDY and the station number should read F (or in rarer cases H)

This is a really curious issue. Does it always happen? Even in the IAM training mission where you start airborne and only have to power on the weapons? Or only in other missions where you ramp start?

No its not in the IAM training mission itself . Its in the TE - HARM mission where you have to go and practice a Sead mission in the enemy territory , After i finshed the HARM mission for too many times i wanted to practice the Mavrick mission But The TE MAVRICK mission is Hard for me at the moment , So what i did is that in The HARM mission i started playing around , I added another flight package and it starts at the airfield so i was able to change the LAODOUT according to what ever i wanted to practice . And i loaded 2 (MAV-G) and 2 IAM (AGM-155 ) , The practice went very well with MAV , i could bore sight and everything and launch.

Its The " IAM " that didnt work as i described above . I took a pic of the MFD where it shows the letter " M " in the station # in the MFD display but im at work now so i will post it when i get back home , i will try to record a VID to show the whole thing if i can maybe you guys can spot what im doing wrong and guide me through .

sorry for the long explanation but im trying to give you a clear pic of what i did .

                          Copy.

If you could also post that saved TE maybe we can see if we can replicate it.

Disregard the posting of the TE. Did some testing and I have been able to get the M in the SMS as well, but not able to replicate not being able to drop.

It seems whenever you load a mix of mavericks and JSOW/JASSM/SDB, then whenever you have either the IAM(s) or the Maverick selected, the other stations show up as M. But, IAMS like JDAMs dont show up at all when the other stations are selected, and when the JDAM is selected you dont see the other stations.

Check out this interesting loadout of 2 54s, 4 SDBs and 2 Mavs:

In the SMS we see the following.
Maverick selected shows station nrs for Mavs and an M for the SDBs. The 54s arent displayed.

39s selected shows Ms for the Mavs and nothing for the 54s.

54s selected shows station nr for the 54s and nothing else.

Then the question why you cannot drop? Well if you are seeing the M for station number then in my testing that seems to indicate you dont have the IAM selected you are trying to drop? Also you need to power on the IAMs separate from the Mavs but it seems you did or you shouldnt be seeing a RDY status.

Would be interesting to see a pic of your SMS and HUD at the moment you are trying to release but cant.

Havent heard of this M indication before so dont know if it is realistic.

Also power state or master arm seems to have no influence on it, tried with both. Screens happen to be powered off IAMS but doesnt matter.

M stands for “missile but not of the currently selected type.” For example if you have wingtip AIM-120 and AIM-9 in next inboard rails you will see “1 M M 9” when AIM-120 is selected and “M 2 8 M” when AIM-9 is selected. The numbers are for station number for currently selected type (and the specific missile of that type reverse video) and the “M” are for other types. So, nothing to worry about. All it means is you have something else strapped to the jet that isn’t the type you have selected.

First picture AGM-65 loaded on 4/6 with a GBU-39 on 7 (shown as M). Second picture GBU-39 selected on 7 and the AGM-65 showing on 4/6 as M/M. Lastly GBU-54 is a bomb type and so is the only item displayed on station 3.

                              Trouble releasing IAMs I suspect:
                              1. Out of parameters: range, too fast, too slow, pitch, bank, JIZ, whatever. JSOW and SDB are really picky about release parameters. 240KCAS is slooow while M0.9 is too fast. If I remember the DLZ will disappear when out of some or all limits. The speed is a common one.

                              2. Control issues with weapon release button. Try CCRP bombing, HARM, AIM-120 to see if press and hold required weapons release OK. Keyboard emulation joystick profiles are notorious for having issues with pulsed or interrupted command holds. AIM-9 and CCIP bombing won’t be affected as the briefest input is satisfactory. Alternately the red ALT REL button on the front panel replicates the weapons release button on the stick and can be clicked and held for a surefire input to compare.

Your comment shed some light on my issue , first all controls are good on my side because im able to release all kind of bombs and missile within the same mission ( MAV , GBUsxx and all other bombs ) so its not the release button but as you mentioned it must be the picky parameters and im guessing the slow speed is the reason because the JIZ was showing for about 10 sec when i was at 350 CAS but when i slowed to 250 CAS the JIZ disappeared so it must be out of parameter thing . i will practice when i get back home and inform you guys , in the meanwhile thank you very much for your helpful answers

This may be a couple of dumb questions, but for the GBU 39’s, have you assigned target steer points? And are you not moving the radar cursor and not initiating TMS up? I usually have to hold the pickle button down longer than 2 seconds. I hold it until the weapon comes of the rail.
