Objects flickering from afar and HUD not visible against horizon
-
I hope you can see this. Some buildings flicker from a distance. Especially annoying when viewed through the TGP.
oddly, in the screenshot it is barely visible, yet ingame I can naver make out the HUD, even after fiddling with brightness of my screen etc.
Is there a solution? -
First post your EXACT system specs, then we can maybe give you the right direction.

Me too. Always been that way with BMS for me even with my 580’s. Doesn’t show the flicker it is in screenshots but you captured the problem in the first one. Happens on runways and taxiways too.

contrast thing ?
try changing the color of the HUD see if that helps you
you can do it in the MC or though keystoke have a look should be assigned in the keyfile Alt+h in the basic keyfile to cycle though the options available -

For me it is more of a shimmering marching ants thing at a distance and like Kansas’s first photo up close. Its not on the landscape like a neg LOD bias setting, its on objects, like buildings and runways/taxiways. It it much worse if I go back to 180 res. Higher Antialiasing does not help. I have no videocard settings on only all on in UI. 359.06 driver, but it has been this way for years. I just thought it was old graphics.

Well I reverted back to older drivers and suddenly had the same issue. Very annoying and very present flickering (like a bunch of lines) on buildings & objects.
When I got a 4K screen this week it now doesn’t appear anymore. Don’t know what I’ve changed unfortunately but I did fiddle around in the CCC settings a bit during the screen switch. My guess is it’s driver related or settings being done in CCC and not BMS or vice versa. Sorry I can’t give more details as I have no clue what I’ve changed during that switch. -
I’ll live with it for now and hope a driver update fixes this someday.
In fact, the more pressing issue is my HUD. As soon as a white sky is in the background, it is impossible to read.
I am using reshade and I’m trying to tweak it so it doesn’t contrast as high. No joy so far. -
That’s how it is irl too.

Hi, KansasCS,
As regards the HUD issue, there’s a simple solution to it, even though one not too realistic
You know you can change the HUD-displayed symbology hue, don’t you… You can then assign the ‘Cycle HUD colors’ function to a key (I assigned it to SPACE, for easy access, even without viewing, after all who on earth fires missiles with the space bar…) and quickly cycle through available hues to find one best visible against the current background. I don’t use it much, chiefly for my approaches when I want all cues to be perfectly legible.
Good luck in your struggle to get most of this great sim…

Sorry I can’t give more details as I have no clue what I’ve changed during that switch. It has to be one of the BMS settings if any, because I do not use videocard settings on BMS, only BMS settings. It is much reduced with my 2560 x 1600 res so 4K probably hides it nicely. You might still get the flashing buildings from time to time in TGP though.

done that, didn’t pan out. All the other colors were even less visible against the white horizon.
I’m getting close to good gamma values. -
I’ve tweaked the sweetfx settings until I was pleased with the results.
I refrained from using HDR because it seemed to be the strongest negative impact on HUD visibility, regardless of setting.
Below are some split screen comparisons. Right being the sweetFX (or reshaded) version.
I added some crispness with LUMASHARPEN to make spotting contacts a bit easier (coming from the IL2 crowd, it’s important for me to to able to acquire targets WVR). The third and forth slide is an example of a tanker in the distance.
I also included the sweetfx_settings for anyone interested. -
I was thinking the flickering might be mip mapping or something. I watched a billboard flicker rapidly as I changed viewpoints with the sim paused. Will take pics next time.

Sure your HUD switch on the HUD panel on the right consoles is set to “day” and not “auto brt”? Auto brightness doesn’t always work good for me so I mostly set it to day or night manually and fine-tune with the left top thumbwheel on the ICP.

Setting the HUD intensity doesn’t help? You can set it with the mouse by rotating the ICP SYM wheel up or down, or assign a keystroke (search for SimSymWheelUp or SimSymWheelDn in the keys file).
I personally have it assigned on an HOTAS axis since I usually need to fiddle with it all the time.

That Hot-babe flickering has been going since I can remember. It’s advertisement after all.:-D

And all the buildings too?:(
