Maverick Camera

Hello again, I was just wondering, is it normal or realistic to not be able to make out a target and get a good ID using the maverick seeker head alone ?
-
Depends on range, the Maverick has limited zoom so it’s not always easy to ID targets.

Oh okay ya I wondered about that but I know the F-16’s MFD screen size is limited and I figured even for a real pilot it could be a challenge, I just wasn’t sure. Thanks.

At maximum lock range using the WGU-10 seeker from an AGM-65D in NFOV I feel that target ID is very marginal among similar shape objects: truck, tank, APC. The D’s seeker only has so many lines of resolution (200-300 I think) which you can do the math on.
240p video, 8nm, 2° EXP FOV is a resolution of about 2.2m at 15km. A T-55 will be pretty much a 3x2 pixel blob.

Pretty normal…depends on a lot of factors - including the weather…time of day…sun angle…etc.

Maverick’s seeker is a seeker, not a targeting pod nor recce device. It was designed to be used for missile guidance and not for target identification.
For target identification you have TGP and that’s what you should take when using Mavericks.
IRL F-16 often carries TGP on AG missions. Nowdays its must have thing and flying with Mavericks but without TGP makes no sense at all! -
Anyone have any Campaign guides ??
