Can wIngmen be asigned targets?
-
Doing a bombing run and need to hit two targets with LGB but i want my winging to hit one while i hit the other. Reconing the targets I dont see any options that will allow me to set this up. This is the Training mission-11-LGB in 4.33. Is there a way to do this in the recon/targeting pre-planning? if not what is the best way to make this happen in flight?
Thanks.

Yes. Recon target. Specify in drop down box the specific target you want and then assign a waypoint to that target. Best to chose a waypoint number in higher than those assigned to your flight. So, for example, you have 13 waypoints for your flight, assign 1 target waypoint 14 and assign the other target to waypoint 15. Assuming these are static targets (ie bridge, etc). when you get close to the target bring up the waypoint for the one you want your wing to hit and give him the “attack my target” command. then you switch the waypoint to the target you want to hit and wala.

You can designate his targets using your TGP by assigning different codes. Use 1511 for yourself, assign 1512 for your wingman. See the youtube videos on this.

So there is no way to pre-assign them to a target preflight, you have to hand them off to a target you have locked/lased/etc?

ShepT, read this. Then read BMS manual.

If your wingie makes it to the target weapons free works yet normally I want to control his actions and ordinance hence I simply lock up a target and order him to attack as often there are others targets that should be hit too once the primary target is especially if you got multiple sams around during Sead/dead missions etc.

It would for sure be nice to assign targets to the AI wingman during pre-flight mission preperation. Depending on the targets i basically work like CPTMTGE, but i often tell the wingman to “go cover” first. After attacking the priority targets i give the wingman the “attack targets” or “attack my target”, also depending on the targets. Works ok most of the times. With the “go cover” command the wingman sometimes goes defensive only if hostiles are entering the area, but does not attack, but at least he keeps the hostiles busy. Life with AI isn’t always easy

Yeah AI has its shortcomings at times. I just ordered mine carrying two Harms to attack at 35 miles an enemy SA10 and he just headed towards it, didn’t engage and it shot him down. No chute. They pay a hard price.

Interestingly, I have found my AI (all I do is play SP campaigns btw) to be incredibly much better and smarter relative to any other prior Falcon release, and I have probably flown them all since it was introduced in 1998 or whenever. Not perfect mind you, but much better.

I agree the issues are a lot less than in the past and don’t want to appear a complainer. I only play campaigns myself managing ATO and now ground wars which is a lot of work and very rewarding.

With a 2-ship strike you can absolutely set a particular ground objective (like a bridge, not a tank) as the mission target and then you yourself shoot something else. With 3 or 4 this obviously doesn’t work. I like to keep strikes to 2-ships when possible unless time-threat is not an issue. When pre-planning isn’t done I like the attack targets command which distributes target assignments semi-randomly. When the “let me at 'em” call comes triggered by proximity to the mission target (ask for AG DL to confirm it’s not an AA hounddog) a WFree directive is often all you need. 4.33 seems a bit buggy about this feature than 4.32 was, as the request to engage can come super late in the flight.
-
yes I agree the wingie asking to engage comes later now if at all and at times as in the past ordering him to attack my target or targets he turns away.
-
Then you are asking him too close.
-
Or he just goes round to follow his designated bomb run patern.
-
yes it appears under 10 miles he will go around then start his attack run.
