Hi, I thought I will share what the postman brought me this morning.
It cost me £10 print with postage from Lulu.com.

      Cheers:D

Very nice indeed and at that price you won’t mind too much when a major update necessitates a reprint.

I’d never even heard of Lulu.com before. I’m now thinking a full set of Red Dog’s charts might be in order.

The postal costs though from the States seem steep. Anybody know of a similar site for the UK?

Darkman. my book was printed in UK and delivered by RoyalMail for £2.99 as Lulu has an office in UK.
At the bottom left corner you can select UK store.

Do you all have a link to the manual on lulu.com? I can’t find the manual.

              Thanks!

Yes, it defaulted to the UK store but the Shipping Options and the feedback suggested that the printed book would be sent from the States.

That’s good news indeed and will be much cheaper than printing out myself.

Click on the Download Zip File link next to the book size you’re interested in. It’s in there.

Hi, it is not visible on Lulu.com as I marked it for private access only. I am not sure if I can publish this due to copyright. However, if someone is interested in ordering a copy for himself here is a direct link ‘Link removed’.

Not too make a hash of a good idea and good intentions …. but:

That manual is copyrighted. Is it appropriate to have a 3rd party create a print version that they sell (even if they are selling back to a rightful owner of the digital version)?

Ahhh … I see the question was raised by sandb0x as well. Has anyone thought to ask RedDog his opinion?

                      OK, I removed the link.
My intention was to save hassle with preparing the pdf’s for printing.
If someone is interested in having a printed manual then please follow the publishing steps on Lulu.com. It is quite easy.

Is the manual just B&W? How much for a full-color print? And how did you make the “border design” that I’m seeing?

Having a nice, bound copy of the manuals is a great idea. I had no idea that it was so reasonably priced.

What if BMS were to publish the manuals through lulu.com (or whatever other similar service)? Could even charge an extra $1 per manual to fill up the “beer and pizza” fund! 😄

Unfortunatly the color print is about eight times more expensive. When changing the format from A4 to more compact 19x25 cm I added tabs and page numbering for better orientation. Nothing fancy, just couple clicks in InDesign.

Did you combine PDFs? Which ones are in there?

Im glad I ordered my copy before sandb0x had to remove his link. 😄
It would be cool if Reddog published his documents, manuals, checklists etc to lulu.com. 😉
If he made a few dollars/pounds/eruos out of it then all the better as he deserves it.

For some of us, nothing beats having a physical copy on your lap, chock full of bookmarks and scribbles on the borders. 😄

how about saving money instead? you know that the cheap tablet isnt worth the $99 right? how about how much electricity it will cost to charge it up, and how much “green” you lose from the power station….

personal preference applies. many pilots are enjoying using tablets for mapping software… but I personally prefer a good printed copy of the ERSA and any AIPs I need.

Because a $99 tablet is cheap, as in garbage, and not worth the energy put into making it. Trees get re-planted by the paper companies usually 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 when harvested.

This is a really great idea.

I hope that Red Dog et al. will come forward with their opinions on having these files up for purchase/download.

And I would have no problem kicking in a few bucks into the beer and pretzel fund for the owner, either. Awesome ideas guys!

realistically, red dog has put his under standard copyright, and the BMS team have neglected to display a copyright, so one would assume they intend to use a standard one.

these files are made freely available in an electronic format. there is no legal ambiguity in printing a physical copy for backup purposes. at least, not under DMCA, and not under australian copyright law. I am not sure on copyright law overseas, but as I am an Australian citizen, in Australia, it doesn’t bother me that much either.
