Getting Started?
-
Hello Everyone,
I am looking for some guidance to starting bms. I played a little a while back, but never got far into it (no more than learning startup and CCIP Bombing).
My question is, are there any really good set of tutorials that go through everything in BMS 4.33? Or how best do you recommend getting to figure the sim out. My end goal is to be able to do the campaigns. Lastly what campaign is best for a first try once i get to know the aircraft and sim? I was looking at the Balkans, or Israeli? Thanks

Work through the included Training Manual.
Perhaps with some supplemental YouTube videos …. just be aware that quite a lot from 4.32, and even some from 4.33, is different in 4.33 update 1.

Ok, so the training manual is the best way to work through? Thanks.
I noticed a few things where different in 4.33 than the 4.32 tutorials I found so I will be sure to look out for the version of the game I am taking info from. -
Tim Morgan (?Stretch) has some good weapons videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/riscfuture/videos?sort=dd&shelf_id=1&view=0

Start with the TEs. Then for campaign I would just recommend the default Korea campaign. Also perhaps try joining a VFW. Good way to meet people and gain experience.

It’s really hard at first. I’ve been playing on and off for a while and barely scratched the surface, but that’s why people love it. I think it would it be helpful if there was a noob forum that new starters could ask questions. Most of the problem I have is that I don’t know the key stroke for something, or where something is. Although there are great videos, you end up with brain overload trying to remember things all at the same time. As an example, going into to Instant Action, click the A-A round button enters A-A Master Mode, but how do you cycle weapons? Clicking it again goes back into NAV. I can click on the RMFD button to change weapon, but there must be a key stroke I can map to a joystick button?

The single most important group of commands for anyone new to know are those that are on the RL F16 HOTAS. They are on (roughly) page 28 and 55 of the BMS -1 document in the folder x:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\TO-BMS1F-16CM-1.pdf. Understanding those commands is the foundation to ‘managing’ the F16 weapons/systems. It is imperative.
When I started here a few years ago, I got the same advice. But I was too stupid or too stubborn to hear it and understand it.
It’s a few years later and I’m still discovering utility in those commands, hoping (hopelessly?) that others are less stupid or less stubborn than I was.

“What He Said”
Just getting comfortable with the Air-frame and its controls again.
Do you have a decent Joystick, preferably a HOTAS. Makes life easier and then set it up as close to the real config as possible.
Which part of the world are you in ? There are squads around where you will be welcome and the verbal assistance is invaluable.
Good hunting and I hope you have fun.

I have the Saitek X-55 and also TrackIR 5 so I’m good with the gear. It’s more or less just getting to know the aircraft, how it works and how to operate it
