How are you recording?
-
Tried camtasia and OBS, both just record black screens.
So what is everyone using to record game footage?
Would love some input!! -
FRAPs for quality, but there’s a size penalty for the better quality.
I’ve used OBS, but to broadcast. This is how I set it up …. maybe you’ll see something to help you capture.
There are a variety of products that will capture and stream your screen/game. I’ve been using Open Broadcast System (OBS). It’s well established and it’s Freeware. https://obsproject.com/
I have the ‘Classic’ version. Others have selected the ‘Studio’ version. With OBS my frame rates are higher than with FRAPs. If I want archive footage at the highest quality, I can run FRAPs simultaneously with no FPS hit other than what is normal with FRAPs.
In OBS, I have the following basic setup:
That’s what is being captured.
For the streaming setup, I have set the following:
Encoding:
nVidia NVENC
Use CBR; Enable CBR Padding
Max Bit Rate and Buffer size 3000Broadcast
Setting Mode Live StreamVideo:
Custom 1920 x 1080
Resolution Downscale 1.25 (1536 x 864)
Filter Lanczos (best detail)
FPS 30
Disable AeroAdvanced:
Priority Class Normal
NVENC Preset Streaming (2 Pass)
Encoding Profile High
Use CFR CheckedPretty much everything else (except the Twitch account info) is default.
Edit:
Changed Broadcast Settings Mode to File Output Only
Changed Video Resolution Downscale to NoneRecords main monitor to file.

Shadowplay also works but FRAPS seems to me higher quality for Falcon, but the size of FRAP recorded stuff about about 10 times (!) bigger than with Shadowplay. Shadowplay works if you disable one of its function what I cannot recall, otherwise the aspect ration will be wrong.
-
If you have the space to record with fraps then the quality file can be adjusted in size and resolution with various free software. Popular software that is typically used for Twitch live streaming is both free and able to save directly to your drive instead of streaming.

Obs works….trying to remember what i had to do…
admin and the “cheat compatibility” flag thing-a-ma-bob?

I hope you remember. I’m tearing my hair out trying to get shadowplay to play nice with BMS. The only way I can get it to work is if I start shadowplay, start bms, loading into the cockpit, pause the game, alt tab out, close shadowplay, reopen shadowplay, alt tab back into BMS, and then start recording.

Try this if you haven’t already.
-Check “allow desktop capture”
-Use manual mode
-Assign an appropriate shortcut for “toggle manual recording on/off and save”When you want to record when you are playing:
-Start ShadowPlay then start BMS
-When you want to begin and end recording press the shortcut that you assigned earlier.I hope that helps.

Would love some input!!I use ZDsoft screen recorder it gets that black screen on many games. my fix is to run bms with “-window” at the end of the exe directory. it records fine in windowed mode

Bandicam…world great

Shadowplay records sound, but only blackscreen for me. FRAPS recorded high quality, but as someone before said, theres a size penality on your SSD and i had horrible FPS drops during the recording process with FRAPS. In BMS as well as in other games.

What ended up working for me was using OBS and playing the game in windowed mode.
