Intended for Ice but now on open forum.

Already tried sending this as PM to Ice, but could not send because once again he has reached his PM limit and needs to create some space. You must be a busy guy Ice ! Anyway I can now only put it on Open Forum but really directed at Ice.
Ice, your code resulted in download and install of GOG
s
Falcon Collection` which installed in three parts, namely Falcon, Falcon A.T, and Falcon Gold. My system shows them as definitely installed and in working order. I have actually checked them out for playability, not that they are in their antiquity actually worth playing in that form. Anyway they work !However, Falcon
BMS 4.33 U1 setup zip
will not set up with them. When I try to extract from the zip file I just get the message “Falcon 4.0 must be installed on your system. Please install.” I can then not proceed further, this despite that Gogs Falcon Collection is ALREADY INSTALLED. I have tried re downloading the
zip filebut just get the same results. I
m now wondering if GOG`S Falcon Collection really is the required item ?Ice, you are by now probably imagining a blundering old fool going round in ever diminishing circles and ending up
you know where
. That really is not the case !You are probably just as tired of this rigmarole as I am, and we
ve also wasted one of your gifts. So…..I really am giving up now. I
ll probably think about things for a day or two, then simply uninstall every thing and forget about it.I will not bother you further Ice, and can only thank you for your kindness and efforts. Of course the same also applies to all others who tried to assist me with this
Regards
bucaneer.

Hello bucaneer!
I’ve cleared out some Inbox space again… I really should do some spring cleaning!
Anyway, I’m glad you got the code and have installed the older Falcon games. However, you do not need any of them, you simply need to install Falcon 4.0 which is classed as an “extra” out of Falcon Gold. If you have the GoG Galaxy program installed, go to your library, click on Falcon Gold, then on the MORE dropdown menu, select Extra Downloads and you should see this:
If you click on Falcon 4.0, the program will download it and save it under \GalaxyClient\Games!Downloads\falcon_gold, and you can install Falcon 4.0 from there, I think. Not 100% sure as I’ve not done this myself just yet (still working on my sim pit). I just did this and ended up with a setup_falcon_4_2.0.0.1.exe file in that directory which is the installer for Falcon 4.0
Obviously, you will have to unzip the BMS installer before you are able to install BMS.
Hope that helps! Don’t worry about asking questions, and I can assure you that the GoG “gift” was not wasted! Any more problems just post here again (better than PMs) and I’m sure myself or someone from the community would be able to help.

I know I said I wouldn`t bother further, but in view of the above advice I feel I must tell of the results.
I followed the above advice implicitly and everything downloaded and installed exactly as detailed above. Everything shown as correctly installed on my system. However I am still stuck with the same problem as before. When selecting the extracted
setup exe
I still get " Falcon 4.0 must be installed. Please install ". Again I can`t proceed further. As stated, my system definitely shows
Falcon.4.0
as ALREADY INSTALLED.Further info
which came up under
setup exeis :-
setup cfg is missingand
setup unable to create directory “C:\Documents and Settings\is-3NOSU.tmp” Error 5: Access denied. This situation is driving me
up the wall
. I`m just going to let it be for now and maybe think it over again in a while. -

sub101,
I
ll have to try to find the answers to your questions but it won
t betil tomorrow now. I
WILL`get back to you.Thanks

AFAIK, the GoG installer only installs Falcon Collection, you will have to install F4.0 separately. Can you verify this by starting up Falcon 4.0?
Patience, my friend, and keep at it. It really won’t be Falcon unless you do “the dance.”

I have decided to uninstall everything then download and reinstall again. In other words
start again from scratch
.Will let you know how I get on but will probably be a few days.

Bucaneer,
just report back whenever you’re ready and we’ll sort it out with you

Bucaneer,

Decided to press on and get
done with
.Have uninstalled and reinstalled everything. GOG
s Falcon Collection in its three parts. viz- Falcon [2.0 MB], Falcon A.T [2.6 MB] and Falcon Gold [707 MB]. All allowed to install by default into
C:\Program Files\Galaxy Client\Games`.However, when downloading Falcon 4.0 from within Falcon Gold, no choice or indication of destination was given. At end of download it simply said
Falcon 4.0 [367 MB] installation completed
Unable to find Falcon 4.0 listed in my programs I went into
search
which showed Falcon 4.0 in C:\GOG Games\Falcon Gold. [different location to that ofFalcon Collection
]. Yes, the file is there okay [quite a comprehensive file with lots of items] though I find noexe file
therein so I really don`t know what to do with it. Have just left it alone. The Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup zip 1.4 GB [from the
Forum
] I simply allowed to download intomy documents/downloads
andextracted all
into same. When trying unsuccessfully to start game from extracted setup file I STILL GET " Falcon 4.0 must be installed on system. Please install".
I am now wondering if I am indeed a
Blundering old fool
after all, and does my problem lie in the locations of my downloads ?Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and if I fail to
sort it
this time then that will be an end to it. It is perhaps getting beyond my aged head.bucaneer.

okay,
So Falcon Gold is well installe, correct, not simply downloaded?
Do you have a shortcut on desktop of start menu?Don’t launch it, just make sure it’s there.
Right click, preperties and note down the path of installationThat should confirm it’s installed and not only downloaded and ready for install
(I never installed anything from GoG as I have the original CD of Falcon 4.0, so bear with me with these détailsAs for BMS
Did you had a read of the BMS manual, there’s an installation chapter explaining the intracities of installing BMSDirect links to manuals are here:

Have reinstalled everything as follows:- GOG`s Falcon Collection viz:- Falcon [2MB], Falcon A.T. [2.6MB] Falcon Gold [707MB] all allowed to install by default to C:\Program Files\Galaxy Client\Games.
When downloading Falcon 4.0 from Falcon Gold, no indication or choice of location was given. End of download simply said " Falcon 4.0 367MB installation completed". Not finding Falcon 4.0 listed in my programs I went into
search
which said it was installed into C:\GOG Games\ Falcon Gold. A different location to that of the Falcon Collection !!! Yes, there it is, quite a comprehensive file with a lot of content. However, finding noexe
file therein I didnt know what to do with it so I
ve just left it alone.Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup zip [1.4 GB] from the forum I simply allowed to download into
my docs/ downloads
, and extracted from it into same. Now when trying to run or start from the extracted setup file I am STILL getting " Falcon 4.0 needs to be installed on your system, please install".I am now beginning to wonder whether perhaps I am a
blundering old fool
after all, and does my problem lie in the locations of my downloads ???Any advice would be much appreciated and if I fail this time then that will be the end of it. I
m thinking that despite every ones encouragement perhaps it
s all proving a bit much for my ancient headBucaneer.

RD, Bucaneer
I’ve just got a copy of GoG Falcon Gold (just for this very case - it was pennies to buy). I’ll stick it onto a Computer tonight and tell you where it should have put it on your comp. Once you’ve confirmed the file is there it’s a simple step to getting BMS installed …
-
Falcon 4 should be installed by default in a folder called “Microprose” in your root directory. That is the folder that BMS 4.33u1 should be pointed at during install.
-
you don’t need to install “Falcon Gold” - that is the Falcon 3 collectors edition.
in the GOG falcon Gold page you have “Falcon 4.0” under “game goodies”, that is the installer you need.
Forget about the “Galaxy client” just grab it from your library on their website. However, it doesn’t matter where you install it to. BMS will detect and validate the install automatically.
-
From GOG just install Falcon 4 nothing else is needed, from your GOG account you can do this, it is 367 MB. install it to windows C drive or whatever yours is. BMS 4.33.1 comes in as a torrent Unzip this using winzip 7 or something similar to your desktop. Check F4 has been installed onto your drive. point Bms installer to a fresh location. ie windows C drive then try to install. you might need to clear registry entries, but try first. let us know how you get on. Falcon 4 should be in its own folder not only the GOG one. in your downloads you should see F4 setup exe run this it will install falcon onto your drive. I don’t think that you have installed it but you have downloaded it. I have just re-downloaded it from GOG and in my downloads I have f4 setup exe when I run it it says “welcome to falcon 4 do you wish to install” are you seeing this box.

Bucaneer see this thread GoG Falcon4 to BMS for Dummies for a step-by-step set of instructions for what to install from GoG and how to get to the point of running BMS.
