Maverick, Minimum altitude
-
After meeting all firing parameters, the missile falls short of its target when I shoot at 500 ft. Is there a minimum firing altitude for AGM-65?
-
Pretty sure yes. The missile falls a few hundred feet off the rail before burning and climbing to target.
-
The maverick fall? heeeuu, nope. Firing from the rail.
-
Ensure on the WPN MDF Page that the Missile is Uncaged, As well as the Aiming Cross is Solid within the Keyhole. (I believe that’s what it’s called) Flashing Cross means it’s an invalid Firing Solution and will miss. The Maverick is always hot, and will fire regardless if it’s a valid shot or not.

In rl Mav’s perform a popup and hit from angle above.
-
…depending on where you shoot them from. But I’m not sure BMS models that to the greatest of detail.
-
I have noticed they do fly up sometimes in BMS and I thought this was perhaps range dependent……probably in -34 somewhere.
-
In RL it’s actually height above target and range dependent. I have yet to play with it to see how well/if it’s actually modeled.

Doug Masters fires Mavericks from the ground…

I could imagine that minimum altitude could have everything to do with how the seeker performs at low slant angles and the maneuverability of the missile at shallow angles and nothing to do with it actually smacking into the ground on launch.

Please do

+1. If you want to figure it out by “flight testing” it, just go out and lock/fly toward a significant target (that won’t shoot back) and note when the GPI goes out of or comes into keyhole - that’s roughly your min alt point for that slant range to target, as far as the seeker is concerned.
