      Hi,

As depicted in the BMS-34-1-1 page 33, AI aircraft use fixed TACAN channels in the Y band.

I tried several possibility (2 flight, packages, etc), but the range information does not appears. On the BMS-1 page 55, this kind of TACAN is defined as Airtac beacon and should work.

Is anybody tried this functionality ?

      Thanks,
      Vincent

It works perfect. You are probably doing something wrong. Are you in the A2A mode?

            Hi,

I don’t know how it works.

            From a package of 2x2 F-16 :

            CNI in backup
Select the TACAN channel (I tried all in the book)
            Select A/A TR
            And instrument mode in TCN

The flag appears in the range window.

What should be the channel of my wingman ?

            Thanks,

Your wingman is on 22, so you have to set 22+63=85 to get the distance.

And … no need to use the backup CNI. Via UFC it works also with the advantage of having the distance in the main page of DED (lower right corner) without the need of switching your HSI to TCN mode.

                Does not work for me;

The distance should decrease as my wingman rejoin the formation, but the distance increases, like if the channel was selected on a ground station.

I tried in UFC Y band and CNI A/A TR Y band, but I have the same result.

I really don’t understand how it works.

Definitely reference the DED counter only for testing as that will only work for AA TACAN to other airplanes. That avoids the chance of accidentally reading NAV or ground TACAN distances.

Assuming you’re reading this distance off the DED then you are definitely yardstick’d to another airplane. If the distance is wrong then you are connected to the wrong airplane. Is this a package flight? The TACAN channels used by airplanes are fully defined by the position in the entire package. First flight is 12/22/75/85 but the second flight is 13/23/76/86 and so on.

                    Hi,

Thank for your patience. I think I got it now.

                    For UFC use :

                    • Seq to select A/A
                    • enter 0 to select the Y band
                    • Enter the channel following:

                    Cowboy11 Ownship
                    Cowboy12 22+63=85Y

                    Falcon11 13+63=76Y
                    Falcon12 23+63=86Y
                    Falcon13 76-63=13Y
                    Falcon14 86-63=23Y

I think I was messing a little bit of everything between the UFC and the backup mode.

                    Thanks a lot,
                    Vincent
