Aircraft lining up on runway question.
-
Just wondering if anyone knows how the code determines how many aircraft to put on the runway? For example: 1 F-16 or 2 F-16s on the runway, lined up prior to take off. When there are 2 jets on the runway, how does the code determine which jet gets which side of the runway?

Side should depend from wind direction…

…it should, but I don’t think the code takes that into account besides determining which runway to takeoff, considering the wind.
If I’m not mistaken (please correct me if I am), if AC turns right to enter runway, #1 always lines up to the left side and #2 to the right.
When turning left to enter runway, #1 lines up to the left and #2 to the right (or is it the other way around?? :D) -
Those are predefined positions. IIRC the leader takes the left side. So there u r.

Now The Question becomes, Does the AI Follow you to lineup at night? Because I’ve never had my Number 2 line up with me on Night Take offs.

I believe aircraft type, external load, and crosswind component influence 1 or 2-ship lineups with the F-16. I’ve noticed that really heavy AG loads they do not depart the hold short line when I line up but a CAP load they will. Day/night shouldn’t matter. Poor weather maybe.
