Datalink question
-
Hi,
I’m on Balkan campaign with Block 50 trying to figure out how does datalink work. I watched couple youtube tutorials, searched forums but unable to successfully make datalink work. Can anyone explain step by step how to turn it successfully on?Thanks in advance!

Open the manual search for IDM or Datalink and you’ll get the best step by step.
Hey guys ain’t I’m getting better?

Which manual? If you refer to Flight manual BMS 4.33 Change 1.06. page 72 I tried it but it doesn’t work for me. Any more suggestions?

Press and hold comms outboard for more than a second, with the CONT mode selected on the FCR.

IDM Search in manuals step by step:
BMS USER MANUAL
Page 154
Package is an important aspect as IDM (data link) will only be available within the same package. So in this case both F-16 flights are within the same package, as you can see they share a common 3706 package number.
Page 172
A package is made up of a maximum of 5 different flights that will all be able to share IDM in flight (if set up correctly).
Page 192
Package Elements: Your playmates on this mission. Make a note of the order flights are listed in the package – this will determine their IDM series. It is good practice to keep (at least) the Lead of each flight in your IDM – in this case I would fill the right column of your IDM with 21, 31, 41 and 51.
Page 203
Now we need to add an Escort flight; if we add it to our package it will be available for IDM linkage.
T.O. BMS1F-16CM-1

As with any type of steerpoint markpoints can be sent over the IDM - Refer to the Data-Link chapter in the TO-BMS1F-16CM-34-1-1 for further information.

Thank you Blu3wolf ! I do select CONT on the FCR, but I don’t press any other keys. By “comms outboard” do you mean COM1 and COM2 buttons (which bind to key “END”, “HOME”)?
-
No, those are the mastermode buttons, on the ICP. The comms switch is a 4 way hat on the throttle. FWD and AFT on it are VHF and UHF PTT respectively, while outboard initializes a round of the AA IDM, and inboard a round of the AG IDM.

while outboard initializes a round of the AA IDM
As you yourself said though, make sure it’s a long outboard. Short outboard (de)clutters datalink symbology on FCR (can be handy!)

No, there is a case where someone has read the manual, and still doesnt understand. Or is it verboten to aid others on the fora?
I gave an instruction on how to accomplish a specific command, after specific reference has been made to the manual. I then clarified that instruction, to make it clear what was being instructed. Im not sure what specific part of this you take issue with, but Im sure you will tell me soon enough.

As if arty’s links to manuals don’t answer the OP question?
so imho, still spoonfeeding Bw.
The OP did not misundertood the manual, he didn’t look correctly and was looking at being spoon fed on the forumwhich is faster for him, tiring for us and he will miss a lot of other things doing so.
The correct answer is to links manuals as Arty’s did …. IMHO
Please re-read that: i didn’t say RTFM, i said link relevant section of the manuals -
Thanks for your help Blu3wolf!

Please re-read that: i didn’t say RTFM, i said link relevant section of the manualsAh, I must have missed Arty’s links. Some posts are automatically decluttered for me by the forum software. I guess the cost of that is being occasionally blindsided thusly.
I would argue asking forum questions is slower for him/her/pronoun of choice, rather than faster. Unless you are quite a slow reader. If its tiring to you, to answer questions, Im not asking you that you do so for every FNG.
I will be forced here to concede that you did not, in your post as edited at the time I post this, say to RTFM, in precisely those words. You merely strongly implied it.

While Im in the process of wiping out any good will I might have built up, its not CRM, either. Glad I could help.

I figured with number designation. For example if my number designation 11 then my wingmen is 12, element are 13 and 14. Briefing usually explains which number assigned to which group.

Slots 1-4 have a little “1” “2” “3” or “4” near the cyan symbol. Slots 5-8 are green and don’t.

see, L16 would make that much easier, with the expanded info for PPLIs.
