      Hello!

I have started a new skinning project for the KC-10 in BMS. Below are some screenshots to give an idea how the skin is coming together. The RNLAF has three DC-10’s of which two are K. The T-235 “Jan Scheffer” and the T-264 “Prins Bernhard”. My goal is to get the details right as far as the standard 4.32 BMS model allows. So far I had to make little compromises here and there, but the end result will look pretty similar compared the real KDC-10. Some interesting details: I have detailed all windows to give a more glassy look, also I have started detailing the turbine inlet and exhaust textures, which I think already look nice for an unfinished skin. Funny is when viewing the inlets, there will be a nice spinning effect from the white swirls on the fan spindles. Haven’t started on the wings. For the rest time will tell, no ETA yet. Hope you like it! 😉

      Cheers, Scuby

      Some work in progress screenshots:
(skin in-sim will have much less aliasing)

Nice. Just a week ago, I was talking to someone about making a Dutch KDC-10 skin. 😄

I am happy to read you all like this! Thanks.

A little update. As you can see in the screenshots below I have made a few improvements, for example: the RNLAF text/logo on the nose/body, early detailing of panels, landing gear, turbine shading, tail exhaust smudge and many tiny things not visibile here. Because of the texture split midway on the body, proper alignment and size of the RNLAF logo and body panels were a real pain, because the two textures use different scales. As you may see I got that sorted pretty well. Perhaps the most interesting is that I re-detailed the Pilot Director Lights. My goal was to design them in such a way to make them appear a little more accurate. The PDL is visually thinner, darker black and more blended in the AC body. The white stripes on the F/A bar are gone and the center lights are yellowish green. I can promise you that this will look very nice when refueling IMO, especially with the light gray underside of the body. The following days I will continue detailing panels with special attention to the body’s underside.

                    Screenshots:

Lovely work, but you may wish to wait 3 to 4 weeks.

It’s OK Pumpy, I like doing it. That beautiful model I will do too in due time.

                        Cheers, Scub

                              Hello! 🙂

Some progress screenshots of major body paneling, early upper wing design and some minor detailing. Hope you like the details considering the resolution vs. body size ratio.

                              Cheers, Scub

Great work guys. One criticism, the centre main gear in USAF KC-10s is a single bogie like the nose gear. Here is a picture:

                                          Hi Chuckles,

You are right and the model planned for 4.33 already has been updated to more accurately reflect the real aircraft. See Pumpy’s earlier post with tiny picture. This thread is only skinning love for the (simple) model in 4.32.

                                          Cheers,
                                          Scub.
