Track IR pro clip
-
So I finally got around to getting track ir 5. Can anyone tell me if the pro clip upgrade is worth buying?

My first impression after upgrading to the pro clip was that motion tracking felt much more stable and accurate compared to the hat reflectors. In addition the range of accessible angles seems to be wider with the clip. Some report it to be flimsy and, yes, the design and manufacturing is mediocre - thin and cheap plastics make it break easily. Any somewhat firm move or action can damage the clip - like knocking it off your head accidently by thoughtless scratching your head…. Yet, I have my clip since more than three years now and haven’t had any problems or broken parts. But there are other alternatives for headtrackers. Check this out for example:
To me, more accurate tracking and getting rid of that stupid hat was worth the money.

I’ve read quite a few reports here about the thing being made of cheap plastic, easily breaking when dropped accidentally and so on, a bit of searching might come up with the appropriate posts.
I don’t have any personal experience with trackIR as I’ve gone the DelanClip / ps3 eyecam route which buys you all of trackir5 functionality and more at a quarter of the price (currently 35 quid I believe), and you’ll get a headtracking device that’s hand-made out of solid metal (I’ve dropped it several times with now breakage whatsoever).
Not affiliated with DelanClip, just a very happy customer.
All the best, Uwe

I tried both. Didn’t stay long with the hat. I’ve been using the clip for months. My headphones fell on the ground from a low altitude a couple times, nothing bad happened.

I dont use the TrackClipPro, because i dont like the wire. And i think, this material is to cheap and will break.
There exists some alternatives. Produced by the community. Take a look at this TrackClips: They are not so expensive, more stable and
some of them use batterys.http://swcproducts.com/listing/freetrack-head-tracker-clip/

I much prefer the ProClip to the hat reflectors. Had mine for about 2-years with no issues, but as mentioned, it is delicate. The DelanClip seems much sturdier, but it’s an ugly bit of kit (no offense
). If my ProClip broke, I’d look at the DelanClip as a replacement though.

Fan of Delan clip with usb power bank here.

I found the Pro Clip is much better than the hat reflectors. As mentioned earlier it is much more reactive and you can adjust the LEDs if there are some ambient lighting issues in your room.
I’ve had my Pro Clip for over 5 years with no problem, mind you I do take care, my headset has a hook near the rig and the Pro Clip stays attached. Regarding the wire I just run it along the headset wire so no biggy.

+1 for the TrackClip Pro. I had mine for 5+ years now. Yes, it’s flimsy. I’ve “fixed” mine by putting some modelling putty inside the joints to stiffen it up… no longer moveable as much and also a bit more fragile, but is stiffer. If it breaks, I just re-apply my “fix.”

I broke 3 trackClip Pro’s. They work fine, but are very fragile and snap very easily. Finally,I bought a DelanClip and would never buy another TrackClip after using the Delan Clip. I think theb steel DelanClip will last forever. Big fan of TrackIR, but not the hat clip or the TrackClip Pro.

Active emitter with battery is the way to go. Official Pro Clip or anything with this geometry is fine.
