Tower T/O permssion delay
-
Hi,
do I have correctly noticed that the delay has changed?
In 4.32 and IIRC it was 30 sec before TO time from flight plan., now up to over 2 min…
I really do not know if I should be glad with it in 4.33 because in flight the speed will be reduced, e.g. from 300 knts down to ~ 260 knts, if you want to follow the TOS…Regards

EarlybiteJust because you’re cleared to TO a little earlier doesn’t mean you need to roll earlier. But it does allow time to set a flight up on the runway, check power up, etc.

EarlybiteThat’s okay, you don’t even need to reduce speed, a better way per some TTP is not actually managing TOT and TOS through airspeed, but geometry. For example if you’re a couple minutes early you simply enter an arc around the steer point while the time counts up to back on time. Also depending on direction of flight, that 3 minutes early will keep you on time, for example if you have to make a 180 degree turn on departure, ect.
Awesome question!

Yes I’ve noticed and it was 25 seconds before, not 30. I’m guessing the larger takeoff window reflects improvements to the AI and ATC’s time management abilities that allows this.
Disregard the DTOT caret until at altitude. Fly a MIL climb profile faster than “on schedule” speed. You will arrive at steer 2 earlier than scheduled; that’s normal and correct. Enter a hold and select the next steer. Now you adjust your hold so you depart steer 2 so that if you fly the briefed ground speed you will show up to steer 3 on time and at the briefed speed.
I’ve flown wing with people that pitch for caret just after takeoff and it makes me tear my hair out. No, go faster!
Alternatively if the flight plan and tactical situation allow it you can fly maximum range or maximum endurance speed after climb but before the first steerpoint. This only works if that speed is slightly below caret such that you can allow caret to increase to scheduled speed and then transition from max range/endurance to schedule speed and be on time in a straight line. This is useful if you’re slightly early. Modification to this is to add some geometry to eat up time between top of climb and steer 2. This is useful if moderately early. Very early just go do an orbit.
There’s also the option of just not taking off. You’re cleared not obligated. If no one is behind you in line just wait at the hold short line. ATC won’t complain. Your fuel burn with tires on pavement is the least.

Depend the cue.
But if you are takeoff early it’s perfect. Don’t reduce your airspeed, this is a common mistake. Keep you cruise speed and just make a 360 before the push point.
