I am using the CH Pro Throttle with my Extreme 3D Pro, what should I bind to it?
-
Just got my throttle but don’t know what would be good to bind the buttons to. Does anyone have a good profile for just the throttle?
-
Start with the commands shown for the F16 HOTAS in the -1: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\TO-BMS1F-16CM-1.pdf pages 28, 29 & 55, 56.
The best advice is to match that as close as possible as a first principle.

So there’s a way to change bindings based on the mastermode? How do you do that?
-
I’m assuming you’re referring to the master mode of the PT (Pro Throttle), the three LEDs on the side of the throttle. This would need to be done in the CH Control Manager. Depending on the master mode of the PT each button would be able to do something different.
I have a CH PT and just use directx to map all the buttons. I’ve attempted to set them up very close to the F-16 throttle. This works well for myself, as none of the buttons on the F-16 throttle change function when selecting various modes, i.e. AA, AG, DogFight, etc.

Oh! I just got the throttle today, still learning it I guess.
Might use the mode select anyway. -

If you mean the F16 Mastermodes (AA/AG/NAV/MRM/DF) …… no. You don’t ‘change bindings’. The commands are multi-functional depending on Master Mode. Best example SimMissileStep … the ‘Nose Wheel Steering Button’. In AA modes it will step to the next missile station on short press and the next missile type on long press. In AG mode it will step bomb modes (CCRP --> CCIP --> DTOS). During AAR it will disconnect you from the boom. With weight on wheels, it will toggle Nose Wheel Steering on/off. In Beer Mode, it’s a bottle opener. Etc.
Many buttons like this (although few that are so versatile) when using ‘proper’ HOTAS commands and DX assignments.

Not familiar with this HOTAS system, but that sounds unfortunate. DX-bound callbacks should function properly (i.e. multi-function based on F16 Master Mode) without need of 3rd party/non-BMS configuration.

So I’m a little confused between the DX assignments in the Excel sheet and the bindings in-game. I usually bind in-game, is there anything wrong with that? Because the Excel sheet is a bit confusing.
Also thanks for letting me know about the NWS bind! I’ll have to use that somewhere on the stick / throttle.
-
I just bound mine in-game and they work fine. Agave_Blue described the functionality of the F-16 HOTAS switches well. As long as your buttons on the PT are bound correctly, everything should work just fine and perform the correct functions based upon the current mode that the jet is in.
My statement about the F-16 throttle buttons NOT changing function was not very accurate. As Agave pointed out, the button can change function. What I was trying to say, is that say the “UNCAGE” button will not change to your “NWS” button by changing modes in the jet. The actual physical button/switch may perform a different function based upon the mode the jet is currently in. I hope that clears up what I was attempting to say. If not FAIL, and I’ll just be quiet.

Great. One more thing: The game thinks that my Extreme 3d Pro POV hat is the same as my Pro Throttle hat. Which is weird. Do you have a similar problem? Also, when I select the Pro throttle in the controller menu, it changes the x and y flight axes to the ministick, and I have to switch everything back by going back to the Extreme 3d pro in the controller menu.
Does that happen to everyone?

Assigning commands in the UI and using the Excel file are functionally equivalent, but the Excel file is more versatile.
Using the Excel sheet to build a full keyfile, including DX assignments is ‘better’ in a general sense. It’s more organized, more customizable and, most importantly allows for shift state functionality (i.e. each button has two ‘button numbers’ …. an unshifted button (just like using the UI) and a shifted button which can contain a completely different command, effectively doubling the number of available commands). You cannot create a shift state and assign shifted commands in the UI as far as I know.

If you use the CH Control Manager you can set your CH Throttle POV Hat to be a 4-way hat. There is a configuration somewhere in the CH User Interface to do this. This is what I had to do. You will also probably have to use “Mapped Mode” for this to take affect in-game…uh, uh, excuse me, in-sim!
As for the ministick issue, do NOT select the Throttle from the pull down menu. Only leave your 3D pro selected. As you’ve seen this will effect what controls what for the sim. You can configure all your other buttons and axis through the BMS config screens. You will probably have to go to the ADVANCED tab/menu in BMS to set up the rest of your axis, Throttle, TDC X & Y, etc.
Just a note, I use all CH products, Fighter Stick, Throttle, Pedals. You may come across issues that I have not being that you are using a 3D Pro and a CH Throttle. I used to use a 3D Pro by itself before I got all my CH Gear.

Thank you! The CH tutorial worked for me. Now the 3d pro hat and CH hat are different. Everything looks good now, except for using the HAT as the radar range inc/dec. What keybind should be used for buttons, since the default is scrolling or something?

…. radar range inc/dec. What keybind should be used for buttons …
SimRadarRangeStepDown
SimRadarRangeStepUp -
Personally I don’t have radar range bound to my throttle. I either use the OSB buttons with the mouse, use TDC cursor bump (move TDC to top or bottom of FCR and the range will scale to the next setting) or the key bindings…which I forget at the moment. They’re something like Ctrl-F1 or Ctrl-1.
